Hey guys,  I just wanted to come here to spread the word about a business enterprise I am starting up this year and wanted to give you all an opportunity to spread the love and help out a fellow NSer.  I've been a member of this site for over 10 years and it has had such a big influence on me.  I've learned a lot of life lessons from this site alone and it goes without saying that I am the person I am today because of NS. Through skiing and NS I've learned that the most important thing in life is to be yourself, dont apologize for who you are and follow your passion and have fun doing it no matter the cost.  I've taken these things from skiing and applied them to my life directly and that is what has led me to launching my business idea as it embodies everything I really believe is important in this world.  Please check out the link below if you'd like to find out more.  I'm asking anyone on here who would like to help me by either donating directly. even a dollar would be rad, or by spreading the link to anyone who you think would be interested in donating thru your online connections like twitter, facebook, tumblr etc.  Thanks for everything NS, don't let me down now!

sounds pretty legit. I'm quite interested in eco business myself, from algae farms to commercial composting. This is something new to me. Best of luck with this venture. are you sure 3000 is all you need to get started? seems a little low

3k is really all I need to start, its pretty low tech but I need to start producing samples for feeding trials, to verify the claim that its as nutritious as fishmeal.  Once that happens, I will be able to persue a much larger amount like 50k or more to expand and go full scale business. I couldnt ask for 50k up front on gofundme nobody would take it serious enough to donate.

I just looked at the details and I need to hit 100$ before my page will show up in their search and be available to public. that would make exposure easier if you guys can help me get 100 it would be huge!

Thanks for all the support guys, if you could do me a favor tho and like my page on Facebook or give it a tweet or something to get my page out there would be amazing I'm still hoping to get 100 dollars so it shows up in their search. first one to donate gets an xxxl tee with a stencil graphic lolz!

You need to get this off the ground if you're serious about it. Send a friend $100, and have him "donate" it through PayPal. This makes your campaign look serious, plus gets you listed. Think about tip jars on counters - they are never completely emptied. No one wants to be the first to donate. The general public consists of herd animals. They merely follow others. Give them something to follow.

Just curious, do you have a written out business plan? A lot of people get an idea and go into it without doing the boring, yet important work of writing out a plan.

make sure and keep records of all your research and development costs, there is a lot you can write off once your business gets running, look into it.

I have one in the works, its gone thru several revisions and rewrites, right now it is in the hands of a business mentor who I used to intern under, he has been helping me get some traction under my idea. And your'e right, coming up with ideas is something im good at but putting them in motion takes a whole separate set of skills.

Really not expecting that..

Just food for thought, I wouldn't put larvae as the big picture on the front of your "Fund Me" project. Its a very small problem that could cause big problems. People will read up that on the larvae in your explanation. Having a giant picture of nasty larvae right up front can scare people away, which is the last thing you want.

these sorts of questions are what I have been working on for the last two years,  without getting into it too much I can tell you that the containers are designed to allow the larvae to escape and collect in a recepticle.  the whole process should actually be very clean and streamlined once established.

A lot of investors are far more willing to give when they know there's a good business plan. That you have researched market opportunities, competition, what you will spend your money on, how much money you need, etc.

If you look online you can find free business plan outlines that are half decent.

fish, chicken and reptiles all eat bugs so this is a part of their natural diet.  As far as cattle its something to look more into, I know they use a lot of corn and grains in those feeds, so this might not make up a significant portion, but the drought this summer made corn and soy prices shoot waaay up and cows were being slaughtered because it was too expensive to feed them, some were feeding their cows old candy and other crap, so could it help a situation like that? possibly.

yea thats a pretty lofty goal im not really expecting that to happen. This will first be tried with fish and chickens where things are a little less structured and growing rapidly

It's all good man, good question.  Any amount of money I will be using to farm insects and nothing else.  Depending on how much i get will determine the scale of operation i can setup.  If i get 3k I will be hoping to process 1 ton of food waste a week at max capacity.  Anything less than that I will have to scale down accordingly.

Things have sort of stalled out donation wise, so i added a bit of incentive to anybody who gives 25 or more, Ill make them a koozie and mail it to them.  big ups to the crochet cult for teaching me how to crochet like 7 years ago!

UPDATE for anyone who is still interested,  I am almost to 20% funded which is SICK for only being up for a month.  I have found a pet store that is able to carry my products and help me market to its customers, I will be talking to them more to identify the best niche for what I can provide.  I have a larvae farm operating at my house too and it is growing daily.  Thanks for all the support so far guys Im STOKED and if anybody wants a dope lil coozie feel free to kick some my way!
