Sooo, I have been diagnosed with a full torn ACL. The orthopaedic surgeon gave me 2 treatment options. 1) being rehabilitation of the muscles of the knee and recovery time is said to be 3-4 months. Obviously, surgery is the other option. I really dont want surgery, but is it true that it is the best long run option with its huge recovery time? I without a doubt in my mind will return to skiing when everything is said and done with my knee, but I am very hesitant to pick either option. Do you have any stories, opinions, or help you could offer?
Get surgery. I actually had both treatment options, I first did rehab on my muscles so I could participate in track and field. This treatment is only temporary and doesn't prevent your knee from hyper extending. After track ended I got my surgery (just yesterday). Surgery is a must have if you want to ski again. It sucks, but if you keep up with your rehab and do everything your doctor says, you should heal up faster. Get well soon.
old thread but i really found this helpful. im waiting to hear my mri results right now and have a bad feeling hes going to tell me i need surgery. also nervous but if it means skiing or not skiing there isnt really a choice
