While accepting Sarah Burke's award for 2nd place in the reader's poll at the Powder Magazine Awards, Michael Spencer asked that everyone remember and honor Sarah today by using the #CelebrateSarah hashtag on social media websites. The goal to get the tag trending worldwide would not only be "a gift to Rory and her family" as he put it, but would also help raise awareness for the recently launched Sarah Burke Foundation.
Sarah was an unbelievable woman and an influence to so many people. Her enthusiastic attitude and willingness to help others are just a few of the many characteristics she possessed that I will always remember her by. And her smile. Even as someone who never had the pleasure of meeting her personally, I still have been incredibly inspired by her generosity and believe she deserves to be celebrated and remembered by all of us in the freeskiing community.
So today, on the one year anniversary of Sarah's passing, I ask that you celebrate Sarah however you can. Show your love and support by using the #CelebrateSarah hashtag on twitter, instagram, and anywhere else you can.
