Is This Damage Repairable? w/ Good pictures

Hey all I need some help.

I have damaged my 2013 K2 Press 159cm Skis (owned them since September 2012) look at the pictures. Now I am wandering if it is possible to repair the damage I have done to them, does the damage even need to be fixed or are my skis a complete write off? The damage is located just before the back of the ski curves upwards. The edge of the ski is impaled/bent inwards and the base of the ski now has a bump in it.
I did the damage park skiing but I don't know how I did it/what I was doing which caused it.

So please help me and give me some useful information! There are lots of ski stores around where I live so taking them to a professional workman/technician isn't a problem.

Definatley repairable, and I wouldn't scrap the ski if that's the only damage. Tip or tail?

I don't think you could straighten that edge back out at all, but if somehow possible, then that would be good, but I'm assuming that trying to do that will cause more damage than repair. Then I'd try to inject some 15min epoxy into that area and put some bar clamps with a soft grip on the area to compress her all together. Then let it cure, and trim the rest of the fresh epoxy away. Hope that helps or gives you a semi-decent idea of what might need to be done to salvage that ski. Good luck!

Thank you very much for the reply, very helpful.

I think it would be best just to take it down to the ski store and have them fix it because I'd rather pay extra and have it fixed properly then me trying to fix it and just make an even bigger mess.

Anytime! And yeah the local shop is probably your best bet if you don't feel comfortable, but if you can't find anyone who will repair it for you, it's worth a shot trying it by yourself.

Totally fixable; a good shop will hook you up. Speak to the workshop guy yourself and judge his initial reaction to tell how competent he is.

If you have a good shop they should be able to help, but some shops won't do much. Talk to someone in the shop see what they say they will or can do. If it you have a shop that won't do much, if anything, then try what NinetyFour said in the first comment.

Hey thanks a ton for all the responses guys greatly appreciated. Good Karma for everyone. The local ski store near me is very good so they should be able to fix it for me and if they can't there are a lot of other ski stores that I can go to.

I'm relieved that I won't have to spend a few hundred dollars on new skis :D

The right way to fix that is to cut out the damaged base, hammer the edge back straight (with clamps and a stop in place so you dont hammer out the edge), clean it up and epoxy in a matching patch, making sure to get epoxy under the blown out edge.

Totally fixable, but some shops suck and cant do that kinda work. If they try and fix it with a base welder or something go elsewhere. If you wanna do it yourself hit me up for better instructions

Definitely make sure you are confident with what the shop is doing. People in ski shops can often make a mess of things like this and then get away with it as well.

Would be interesting to know the results so post back when they're fixed!

Thanks CTD and HWW. When I get the ski fixed (I will take them to the shop this weekend) I will definatly post some pictures of the end result and let you guys know what the ski store did. Hopefully that will help any other people who have done the same sort of damage to their skis.

That would be solid. Nothing worse then when 5 guys on an automotive forum have identical problems, 1 finds the fix, and then doesn't reply with the fix...

Whoops, didn't finish that reply. Aha that example is pretty extreme; but at least f you post results, it puts other people with the same problem at ease and gives them a good solution idea.

I had one similar, but much worse and did that, except I had to cut the edge to get it back straight again and then restapled the edge back into the base (to make sure it held) and epoxied the whole thing and it has been great since. Would have been probably at least a $100 repair, but luckily I worked at a shop and could do it myself for free.

Hello everyone just a quick update to say I have taken my skis to the store (Ski Trading Post in Auckland, New Zealand) and the guy there said he has repaired damage like I did to my skis lots of times before and it's going to cost me only $40 NZD :).
What he said he was going to do was cut away at the base a little bit then peel the base of the ski back and straighten the edge the clue it all back together.

Sorry for the brief explanation but when I get my skis back on Thursday I will upload pictures :)

This is the best way to fix bent edges like the one in the original post for sure. Cut the base perpendicular to the edge about 2cm long then peel the base up to expose the edge mounts. Get the edge back into shape (hammer & chisel), get some good epoxy all in and around there then clamp everything up snug. File to tidy it up once set.
