Walking around/Traveling

Hey so i was wondering what you guys do when your on a vacation and you go to take pictures of a location what do you guys do? do you take your backpack with your equipment or just take your lens and your camera and keep it around your neck???

heres what im doing so you can understand my question more....

I am going on a cruise and we are supposed to get off the boat the first day and go to the Myan pyramids but theres a lot of traveling off the boat and back on then we walk around and im gong to take pictures...

so i am wondering what you think would be best and most ideal... Should i take all my equipment in my backpack or just take my camera and keep it around my lens?

I have done both, I kind of life to keep my camera with a 50mm out, and then a pack with a wide and maybe a tele. I did it in Greece most recently, and it was nice because I could throw the camera in the pack too if I wanted, and I could keep a water bottle, some snacks and some ouzo and it would still be really light. This was for a cruise also btw

I think thats what i will prob end up doing just because theres a ton of travel time to get there and i dont really want to carry it the whole time while were on a bus haha

THats wat i think i might do too haha its either that or bring my bag cuz i rlly dont wanna carry around my tamron 17-50 on my neck all day.

I did the gh2 with my 25mm, but there were some places where I was glad that I brought a wide angle

I'd bring 2 lenses or something, especially if you're hiking or going far. I love bringing my 50 1.8 around since it weighs nil, and compacts small, and then I bring a really light and compact 28-80mm USM for everything else rather than my beefy 18-200mm IS, which weighs a ton (and is kinda stupid to own in the first place) Bringing light, cheapish but still decent glass is pretty safe. Whenever I backpack I utilize this combo. It fits better this way in my backpack too.

idk im still deciding what to do...

I was going to bring a backpack but Dakine fucked up and didnt ship my stuff in time.

So now im thinking just bringing me T3i with a tamron 17-50mm on it or a 50mm on it...

What do u guys think would be best?

Take the tamron, if you see a nice landscape or cityscape you will kick yourself in the butt for just bringing the 50. Is it the canon 50 1.8? If so then you could just have it in your pocket for low light shooting.

I traveled all over Europe last summer with just my t2i and a tamron 17-50. I think it is the perfect combo on a crop sensor , everything from landscapes to portraits. I have the VC version which made video easy too, though the lens is a bit soft. Carrying it wasn't a big deal, I just kept it in a tiny Lowe pro shoulder bag in front of me with the canon neck strap over my neck and the bag part way open with some batteries and a cleaning cloth.

I know. I was saying that I also like that (equivalent) focal length, but that there are times, especially when travelling that a wide angle is necessary
