Spins on Boxes?? Tips please.

Ive been trying to get spins on boxes down without jumping, Is there a secret to? I never can seem to get more than a 10-20 degrees of rotation without lifting my feet on a flat box, and none at all on the rainbows. Any tips would be great guys, thanks!

When you get on the box go a little more than 90 and just start leading with your head and shoulders

Thanks for the response. Leading with my head doesnt usually seem to do it though. I jump on the box to 90 and throw it around to try and ride off switch and I usually end up needing to jump it the rest of the way around. Its amazing how easy everyone makes it look in these edits though!

dont lock your vision on something. keep looking in the direction on your spin. Another trick is to set your spin a little faster so you land 100degres and not 90. From there, keep your legs wide focus on balance and use your hips and shoulders to push the rotation if needed. Dont worry about the landing, you will feel your direction and have a erie feeling the box is almost done

Thats great advice, how wide do you go on the legs though? If I get too wide I end up on my edges, and I doubt spinning would work very well if I am up on the inside edges.

I can already spin 360s on the ground with the skis on, but that relys on my edges to to get the rotation, not momentum from my upper body.

Here's a tip; your body will always follow your head and shoulders. When you come onto the box instead of looking toward the end keep your head turned, but still level with the horizon or else you'll fall.

as soon as you're on the rail keep your shoulders turned, your head looking over your shoulder, standing straight up with your weight neutral on your toes and heels, and legs together

I'm learning spins on boxes, and I feel it helps to start spinning a little before you're on the box.

This is great stuff, regarding the weight, Now I know you want your weight neutral across the foot, but do you try to lean harder on one foot than the other? Ive heard it said that for rails and stuff you should have more weight on the front foot than rear. If this is the case do you try to weight shift as you spin or do you just balance evenly on each foot and hope for the best?

When you spin (on a flat box), you pretty much want it even since you're gonna be changing it up pretty quickly. If you're pretzeling or even just staying sideways, you'll want more weight on the inside of your upper foot, so that you can keep the ski flat, while edging the other ski to pretzel.

I could never spin on boxes until I brought my feet together. The closer they are, the faster I spin. I don't know if this will help you but it's worth a try.

Set your spin on the jump and carry the momentum throughout the box, keep looking to bring yourself around. also maybe try scissoring a bit at the beginning of the box.

Get your feet about shoulder length apart, bend your knees and keep your head and shoulders looking in what direction you want to go. Practice small spins and work up to bigger spins, it's really all the same technique.

same. normally you want a wide stance on rails but definitely bring it together. i feel like it stops any edging on the box to keep it smooth

build yourself up

1.find a box your comfortable going 90 on

2. hit it a couple times

3.stop being a lazy ass bitch and hike that shit

4. go 90 then look up hill landing switch a few times

5.repeat 4 but move your head more faster

6.go to xgames because your pro now

Unfortunatley they just dozed the mini-park at my mountain so I am in a wierd place, I have two flat boxes with no lip on them I try with, but they are pretty steep down the hill so my 90 hits and up with me on my hip. The other 3 good boxes are a rainbow box ,which I got the straight down over, a up-flat box when I always lose one foot on the change, and an up-n-over a barrel which I am still worried about going face down over the barrel on. I gotta find a place with a good beginner park damnit.

I like to pop like 60ish degrees in the air and then keep my shoulders spinning with the same momentum, also it takes a few falls to get the feel for the box. Alot are different depending on the amount of metal on the edges. Throw like you throwin a 3
