Does everyone get stopped in the lifeline from getting on the lift by ticket scanners checking your pass/ticket on every run?

I like the gates that you just ski past to check em, but people are fuckin idiots and don't put the ticket in the right place so they hold up the gate and whole line.

You just had to do one thing.

At my home mountain (Mont-Trmeblant, QC) they scan your pass only at the lifts that are at the bottom of the hill, if youre skiing the top half, then they don't check.

I don't mind it. Was at Cranmore, NH last weekend, and the ticket checkers were the happiest dudes on the hill, and were super nice every run. When the line is at a standstill they make for nice conversational randoms as well.

At my mountain they do every lift you can get to from the beginner lift so people cant get the one lift ticket and ski everything else. At the lift to get to the park on saturdays its always the same two guys that are baked out of their minds and take forever but are just having a blast haha

I once had a guy check my pass 13 runs in a row. By the 4th time he checked it he was calling me by my name.

Ya the montagner, how ever you spell it, pass is the best used my buddies over the Christmas break and when I was skiing by myself it was so useful. Get on the gondi right away skip all the lines but the edge it was dope. Sadly I only have a regular season pass but when I ride with buddies it doesn't matter because half of them are in the same boat as me so we got to just wait unless its a long line then we snake singles. It's annoying to show the pass every run at the bottom and then show the park pass every lap at the top though.

My hill just upgraded to scanners this year. You put the pass on your pocket and then the lifty has to scan until he finds it. The way they do it is so slow

Scanners are fucking stupid. The scan gun alone is right in the $1000 range to buy and the scanner is really inefficient and slow. If mountians can't afford the gate system they should sell the scanners and do physically check the passes.

Meadows switched from scanners to RFID gates this season. Best change to that place in a while. They should have done this way before putting in a new lift that no one uses.

Generally though if it's a bottom lift the lifties are required to scan every time. Would you really want some dude making 9 dollars an hour to lose his job just because you didn't want to pull your pass out?

That's what the mountains want so that people don't sneak on the lifts. IF you don't like it too bad.

If you have your pass on a retractable leash you can have it out ready to go and not even have to stop.

That was the only place I've ever been a ticket checker. Some fun kids up there. Couldn't do park crew with my broken shoulder so I could check tickets or sell tickets.


It sucks when people get so pissy about it though. There's a big red sign there that says to have your ticket ready to be checked, and that it will be checked every run.


Instead of bitching about how much time it takes them to pull out there pass every run they should just put it some where that they can get to it. It's not my fault that they have it buried under every layer. What the hell do you think you bought the thing for? Obviously it's a pass to get you on the lifts, why are people so shocked when they get checked.


I guess the years before there the ticket checkers sucked and so people were expecting to never be checked oh well.


Also sucks when people expect you to remember them. It's like, I didn't get this job because of my awesome memory, give me a break. You see 1000s of people everyday.

i know it's expensive but the RFID scanners are completely worth it, larger ski areas in the east should really think about them
