Windows 8 (is it actually faster than w7)

I've heard some people say that windows 8 is a lot faster than windows 7.
What do you guys think of it? Is it actually faster? Worth the $40 upgrade from windows 7?

I've heard its a lot faster and the boot time is nearly erased. Thats from one person that just installed it. I may go back to XP just because I feel like it. Not a fan of Vista, 7, and 8 really. Have 7 right now.

i'm in no hurry to upgrade until I've got a better idea as to what w8 is going to perform like. personally, i like w7 and am not interested in helping debug w8.

I'd wait till they work-out all the bugs. It's not a "huge" upgrade from 7, so I'm in no hurry

Work out the bugs?

The bugs were worked out in the developer preiview, the consumer preview and the release preview. You aren't beta testing windows 8, that's already been done.

Well I've heard for multiple sources that windows 8 was faster than windows 7, particularly in gaming fps.  On the other hand, I had a conversation with a few computer repair guys, I was buying parts from them, and they thought very strongly that windows 7 was faster than windows 8.....In my opinion, stick with windows 7.  It should be more familiar to you and on top of that, it isn't trying to start some kind of new touch screen revolution.

W8 is really only good for tablets.

if you have W7 you're best off.

I used it for two weeks over Christmas. The boot up time was awesome. As fast as my i7 macbook pro. I hated the OS though.

Why would you ever go back to xp though? It's such an outdated OS by mow. What is worse about windows 7? If you want go away from windows 7 I would highly recommend looking for a linux distro.

If you are a beginner with linux, or want something that "just works", Ubuntu or Linux Mint is the easiest way to go.

oops, I didn't see it was the guy below you talking about going back to xp.

and I wouldn't recommend gentoo haha. I guess it's really turning heads with it's package management system. Maybe it's the future but for now I'll stick with debian or scientific linux!
