so my dad booked me some flights to reno, so we are trying to ski tahoe. we will be there march 4th, what places do you recommend? i know heavenly and northstar, but that's about it.
We got something like 140 inches of snow in March last year. Hopefully that happens again. But if not, Squaws park is pretty fun right now. I guess alpine has a pretty good park set up but I havent been over there yet. Northstar park has been lacking. I would recommend squaw/alpine. Two mtns with one ticket son.
So last year I went to tahoe in March and it dumped right before we got there, so the first two days were great. For the second two it warmed up so I skied park but it was still sick. I would recommend squaw valley its like 45ish minutes from Reno which was where we were staying in a Casino. The steeps were sick and the place is huge, I also went to Boreal one day cuz I seen it on a TC episode and it was goow but Squaw was better. They have a really good park with good grooming even in the warm. If your white as hell wear sunscreen or you WILL FRY.
What do you want to ski? The great part about Tahoe is every mountain is really different with regards to what people like and ski.
I ski kirkwood which is steep and the park isn't anything to brag about. Heavenly/northstar are pretty simli9ar in the sense that they're both flat and they have good parks. Squaw and alpine have a little bit better terrain (I mean a little) but I think it loses the overall battle with kirkwood for steeps and powder because of crowds.
Mt Rose and Sugar Bowl are ALWAYS underrated and probably the best of everything with regards to steeps and decently good parks.
Boreal right now is a waste of time IMO since most every mountain has their parks up and running.
Squaw and alpine are crowded, heavenly's flat, lots of bay area people ride Sierra, but it's still pretty rad.
I guess we need to know what you're wanting to ski. When I say steeps I mean The FWT is held at kirkwood...
i guess i'd say im looking for the best mix of everything. my dad is not going to want to shred park all day, but i am not gonna want to surf boring groomers all day
Gonna kinda go off this. Kirkwood is awesome. My rose is really bad in my opinion, but sugar bowl rocks. Boreal is definitely a waste of time. I still like squaw and alpine the most despite the people. Northstar is up there as well. I've never been to Sierra but heard their park is killer.
I dont know why people are hatin on Boreal. Yes, compared to the other resorts its a hill. But its got some sick rails and 3 jump line. Jumps aren't big, but they are fun. Obviously the other places are better but if you want to go night skiing it is fuckn awesome. Especially if you are from the east coast. A typical nights temp at Boreal is like a good day on the east except the snow is still softer even though its at night. Definitely not a waste of time. Also the sunsets are pretty sick up there.
My rose is the cheepest and closest to Reno. The chutes (super steep section they have) are really good and there is crazy fun stuff everywhere. The park is above average but not a full run long like flatstar. Try mt rose to see of you like it! Super cheap, never any crowd, and good riding
