Dakine dead?

so the VF corporation has put in a bid to buy billabong and has said that they will incorporate billabongs secondary brands into VF's portfolio.

billabong own Dakine and VF own Eastpack who make the same sort of bags, sturdy functinal "action sports" type things, does this mean Dakine will die and become part of eastpack or will VF just add the brand into VF's brand portfollio, same with element and Vans, and maybe Billabongs snow gear and North Face.

If there are any business type people who know what they would do let me Know!

Not very relevant but I would much rather have a Dakine backpack opposed to an Eastpack backpack. Eastpack just seems real low end and cheesey.

To answer your question, I have no fucking idea.

They would be idiots to dissolve the Dakine brand.
They have too good a name and reputation in the action sports gear industry to warrant a liquidation.

Honestly, not surprised that they are owned by Billabong. Had no idea VF was that big though

Just wondering, who is VF?

Also, I doubt that a company would take a successful brand and completely eliminate it.

I would say that DaKine is positioned in a unique way in the market that assuming it is profitable, they would not eliminate it. It is a different market segment than TNF or Eastpack.

typically the reasons for purchasing brands has more to do with economies of scale (driving down costs through increase purchasing), than putting competition out of business. It makes more sense to keep a known brand than to end it. The other possibliity if this actually happend would be to begin reducing the quality of dakine and selling it at volume retailers like walmart.

unsure how all the business stuff works but dakine makes a lot more than bags: gloves jerseys, their own outerwear this season.. hope they don't die

VF is the largest retail conglomerate in the world. They own brands such as Vans, The North Face, Jansport, Eastpack, Levi, Lee, Wrangler, and many, many more.
I know this b/c i used to work for the The North Face and my checks came from VF.
This should have very little effect on Dakine as a brand and their products, and if anything will make it more accessible to more people and provide helpful financial backing for things such as retail space and R+D.
