Ha! I was in Fraser  last night and it was a low of -20, and last week one night was -30, it was ridiculous. Also the high was 1, LA is hilarious.

Yes, laugh. It's funny.

But at the same time, let's not forget the 50,000 homeless people, the poor families that cant afford to turn on their heaters or dont even have heaters, and the farmers who are working their asses off to keep their crops from freezing.

Homes in Los Angeles are not built for this. It got down to a nice 40 degrees last night in my friends loft. You bet your ass I was cold. I keep my apartment in Mammoth a nice 68 degrees.

Ya, I was in mammoth last weekend and I think Saturday it was -10 when we left for the mountain. Also with agriculture being the states second largest export (technology is the first) I'm sure a lot of farm workers were up late the past week keeping the giant fans on to prevent the frost from collecting on the crops (these are awesome to watch running).

I lived in colorado for 4 years before moving back to california, it has been cold here relatively. Like we live in this bubble and get so used to it that when it drops under that bubble you really feel it. I was in whistler for a week a month ago and it feels colder today in california than it did in the morning there.

but yeah fuck the news in california its all really gay

Not defending them overly, but the tires on a lot of their cars suck even in water. They hydroplane so easily if the don't have grooves that go linear all the way around the tire.

Other places typically have resources for these people. The homeless in Minneapolis had 5 sweaters and gloves and hats. We did donations every year for extra winter gear. In LA they have shorts and a windbreakers. And in places much colder, the homes are typically insulated, or there are wood burning stoves or breaks/discounts on gas heat and so forth. LA does not have these resources.

Different places are structured for different conditions. If Minneapolis got a 10 foot storm, the city would shut down for days. In Mammoth we have no trouble keeping things clear and making it safe. In LA, the houses may be built for earthquakes, but they are not built for cooler temperatures.

its not that cold. they're not gonna die. maybe if it were 30 degrees it'd be a little more unsettling. but its most likely going to pass soon anyways.

Thats pretty much what our average summer temperature is (it gets warmer ofcourse). The Summer officially starts when the average day temperature stays over 50F. I feel bad for all those homeless ppl tough.

68 degrees are you fucking kidding me, Rachel? highest your heat should ever be on in a ski town is maybe 60-62... Otherwise, talk about a waste. My roomie came back up from a monthlong stint in Sacramento last week. He immediately turned the heat up to 75. I had to unhook the thing after I started sweating balls off in my own home. I don't care if there is snow on the ground here, that's just stupid lol.

Regardless, homes in LA are built just like homes in Northern California - which see temps down into the 20's every single year. We've survived like that for I don't know? forever!... and 'surviving' a night where you can see your breath for the first time in a blue moon is a little different than the hundreds of thousands of homeless in Detroit or Cleveland. It's just like when San Fransico folks freak out about temperatures in the 90's for a few days every august because they don't have air conditioning... walk 2 miles down to the 60 degree ocean and jump in to cool off.. You'll fucking live.

Many of my fellow Californians need to grow a pair, put on a sweater, or set some shit on fire in a steel trash can like they do in all the apocalyptic movies. Lol.

bahahaha Californians...
I saw a guy driving with chains on a snowless freeway in the rain in downtown LA last winter. And in the few years I've lived in LA I've seen hundreds of cars driving for MILES to Bear or Mammoth with chains on perfectly dry roads.

This morning a co-worker asked me how I was able to wear a t-shirt inside. In 70 degree temperature. It's ridiculous. If it ever dipped to even 10 or 15 degrees, it would kill off half the population of this city.

I said it's funny... But when you're a homeless person with shorts and a tshirt and 1 blanket and it's 27 degrees outside with 30 - 60mph winds... you're probably pretty fucking miserable, more so than usual. Being cold sucks. It's not the end of the world, but it sucks.

And keeping it 68 isn't outrageous when you aren't paying for it. It's just enough to use a light blanket. But hey, that's why we don't live together.

50s was the daytime high, it dipped into the 30s and 20s at night. Although most LA people are wusses in the cold, I know I am. Also be careful mixing up LA/Southern California people with all Californians. Mammoth, Tahoe, Truckee and other areas (especially the deserts) get really cold in the winter.

Wow. Am I really the only one showing some sympathy for the homeless people sleeping out in 30 degree (less in a lot of areas in LA county) temperatures?

I think that sucks. I wouldn't want to do it unless I had a decent sleeping bag or at least warm clothing... which these people don't.

Fuck the people thinking they need a warmer sweater for their dog.. thats funny. But I wouldn't want to sleep in a house that's 40 degrees and I feel bad for the kids that have been doing it for over a week when they are used to 60 degree nights.

I guess I should work on being more heartless.
