How much Vertical feet do you have to ski in one day to be a bad ass?
20k's not too bad... that's basically 10 gondola laps at whiteface I think? It really depends on the terrain though. 20k on groomers is easy. 20k elsewhere not so much
^^ thats insane, didn't think it was possible till i did the math. That tram is epic 9 minutes for 4200 feet almost is so good. Can't wait to ski there this year Im going to def try and break 100k feet.

I ski on average at Stratton about 20-25,000 vertical a day there. This is tracked through ski tracks app so idk how accurate it is, but I think its relatively accurte to give a pretty good general estamate.
Granted though I don't wait in the lift line there since i have a speed bear pass and can lap the mountain as fast as I want to
Id say on my best day Skiing from 8:30am to 10pm I've logged about 25,000ft. My "mountain" only has a 400ft vertical but can usually do a lap every 10 minutes and then skiing for 13.5 hours and it adds up.
This doesn't add up. YOU ski for 13.5 hrs straight? First chair at we'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say 8am to 930 at night?
It depends what mountain you're at too. 30k at Beaver creek does not equal 30K at squaw valley or Kirkwood. Shit, I could do 20k at kirkwood and be a lot more worked than 40k bombing groomers at vail or breck.
Ok it was just an estimate ill try to break it down:
Get there at 8:30 ski from about 8:45-12 (3.25 hours)
eat lunch till 12:30 get back skiing at 12:45 ski till 6 (5.25 hours: 8.5 hours total so far)
start skiing again around 7 until 10, which is last chair (another 3 hours so a total of 11.5 hours) which is 690 minutes.
The lift is 7:15 minutes (yes i timed it) and an average run is 3 minutes. add in factors like lift lines, hiking, and falls; average each run to 15-20 minutes. so thats about 34.5-46 laps in that time span which equates to 13,800ft-18,400ft
25k was a little much to assume but i think 15k is more reasonable
According to alpine replay, unsure about the reliability I have travelled 31.7 km in 8 hours. Now I imagine that includes lift travel as well so cut that in half and I am at about 87000 feet in 8 hours at a fairly small ski hill going all out all day with only one 20 minute break. Not sure how I feel about that as it doesn't seem correct but whatever.
i think a lot of people here are getting mixed up with distance traveled as apposed to vertical traveled. you could do an 8km run but only hit 800 vertical feet.
Bringing this back, I just did 22 tree pow runs at my home mountain for a total of 28k vert for yesterday. I had never gone on the website and looked, but it tracks every time I get one a lift and the vert feet of it. RF chips in the season passes are cool!
I don't really care too much about vert at the resort. With VR once in a while I'll check epic mix with friends but that's about it.
Also really depends on the lifts. Something that has 2k plus vert, without a massive lie, it's pretty easy to stack vert.IT it's something closer to 1k, and or has a huge line or fixed grip it can be way harder.
I don't care for vertical but I like to turn on the ski tracks app if I remember; just to gauge about how much we did. At a big mountain out west or even in Vermont with express lifts, you could easily crack 20k feet. This picture is from Holiday Valley this weekend. I lol'd how many runs we had considering we weren't trying to go hard and we ate lunch. But then again, it only took 1-2min max to get down each run.
Hmm well my home hill is ~200 vert hahaha. It takes about 2.5 minutes to get up and 30 seconds at most to get down. So if I ski nonstop from 10 am to 8 pm thats 200 x 200 = 40,000
It is super easy to stack up vertical at aspen by just doing gondola laps because its over 3k and its less than 10 minutes up. I don’t know how much i had by the end of the day but it was definitely over 20k

walrussteezeThe record for lapping corbet's is like 32 times in one day. So do the math and at about 120,000 vertical and you're a true badass.
I used to be a tram operator in JH. This is not accurate. The absolute max would be 18 laps while open to the public and maybe 21 if you had access for every ride possible. There are 12 minutes between trams. You can make it down in 7 minutes if you're really fast. But you have to wait for the tram to ride back up, and then either cut the line or wait. The the first public tram is at 9am and last public tram is at 3:30p.

8:24a is rockstar / highest paying ski school/guides
8:36a is high paying ski school/guides
8:48a is high paying ski school/guides
9:00a - 3:30p is public
3:45p is Ski Patrol/night creature

Yeah I got about 30k in 2 days ago at Beaver Creek, it's super easy to do there cause all the high speed chairs. If you ripping groomers all day you could easily get 40k in at Beaver Creek I bet.
