How should I tell my roommate I have marijuana in the room?

I smoke often, not quite once a day but close to that especially on weekends. I just got a new room mate and hes the kind of guy that doesn't drink, do drugs, or go to parties. I talked to him yesterday and he said that he has never been exposed to marijuana. He hasn't seen it. Right now I have an ounce sitting in my room and I kind of want to tell him since I want to have some closure that I am not getting on his nerves by having an illicit substance in our room which we may very well both get in trouble for, if worst comes to worst.

How should I approach this? What should I say? I dont want to come off as a complete stoner and worry him about it.

I wouldn't say shit. If it were me, I'd just keep that shit to myself. He might dime you out....you never know. And if you tell him you're holding a zip, that might freak him out big time. IDK?

I would ask him if he was cool with you doing it, then ease him into what its like having it around before you pull out a zip and freak him out. If anything just show him like one nug and how you pack your piece.

Yeah its my stuff, but I have been in rooms where someones been drinking 1 personal beer it wasn't mine and I still got canned for that shit. had to got to a class talking about what I should have done in the situation of someone drinking a beer on university property. I would never blame it on him haha that would be fucked. The most that would happen is he would probably have to talk some one and would be fine.

I'm not even worried about being caught though because I don't smoke or look at my weed in my room.

Tell him along with your RA, your parents, and maybe also the Dean.

...probably best to just keep it hidden and keep your mouth shut. You're only gonna be sharing a dorm with him for a few more months, I don't think it's worth you getting in trouble and/or him being worried about it.

Someone said it before, but ask him how he feels about you having it in the room without letting him know you already have it. What he says will dictate what you do.

And make sure he knows that if it ever gets caught you'll fess up for all of it.

And offer him some. Who knows, maybe he's willing to try something new? A lot of my engineering friends who previously vowed to never smoke now do with me. Sometimes all you have to do is show them the way and they'll join ya!

If you didn't already you should at least let him know you smoke, see how he reacts to that. I wouldn't tell him about the zip you have until you get to know him better.

if he has never been exposed to weed, chances are he won't take kindly to you having a zip of it in your room. because its illegal, and any kid who hasn't been exposed to anything illegal prior to college is a pruneeee.
I'd suggest stashing it and just playing dumb. My friend had the same issue last year and if he asks just say its tobacco. he won't get in your business, and if he does, just run shit.

talk to him, not about this but about anything else for a while to find out if he's the type of person to rat you out. ask him if he's ever done anything that can get him in trouble. if he's chill who knows, maybe you're about to show him his new favorite hobby. if not, you just made a new friend. idk for for it

donno man. I've been small town Canada my whole life, no need for slang when talking drugs. We just call shit as it is, there's no strangers, no heat score, none of that shit.

I could see maybe if I spent more time living in the city there would be a use of slang, but I don't, so I don't know all these hip terms.

i agree with both of you though on how the name came about, probably several different reasons it could be called a zip

Seriously just come out an tell him, ive had the same situation actually from both sides. If the kid is cool he will understand and just make sure you let him know that obviously if anyhing happened you would recieve all the blame. If he is a dick, then hide it well.

I will for sure tell him. My friends say I should tell him. Whats the worst that could happen if he gets sketched out? I seriously dont think he would want to go through meeting with an RA just because I tell him I smoke marijuana.

I think I will just say word for word. Hey what are your thoughts on marijuana?

Thanks for all the responses I shall tell him what is up and then celebrate by smoking with everyone who wants to on my floor.

If it is a no though, I am still going to smoke and will be bringing bud into and out of the room. Do I just stay low key about it or just stop. I never have been dumb about. I didn't tell my other roommate for a quarter and he never knew I smoked.

One of my buddies freshman year was in a similar situation. He told his roommate. The next day he came home to find cops there and was arrested and kicked out of school because his roommate was sketched out and ratted on him.

Basically worst case scenario, but something to consider.

ask for his opinion about weed, if hes like "i have nothing against it, but i dont use it" you could say that you smoke but not that you have it in your room( so if that he finds it he wont care, or will just confont you)

if hes against it, then it's obvious...

I didn't say slang was dumb, just that we don't really need/use it in small town Canada (especially for just weed). As I had stated, maybe if I spent time living in a city, or 'Murka I would have use for such things.

Your school has strict rules. I got caught smoking in my room freshman year with another one of my roommates. We said our third roommate wasn't involved and he didn't get in trouble for the weed. We also only had to write a paper as punishment. Our other roommate got caught with alcohol in the room during the same instance and we weren't in trouble for that. He also only had to write a paper.
