IPOD IN COLD WEATHER

Anyone know anything about this? Lately its been damn close to 0 at night in mammoth, sometimes below. Been having a lot of issues with my brand new 160 gig. Have had to reset it about 4 times and I left it in the car for about 40 minutes tonight and I came back and had to restore it. I know this isnt a tech forum but maybe someone knows a little about this. Thanks.

keep it close to your body, the cold messes with the battery especially it might be the cause of your problems too

Don't leave anything in the lodge


For the ipod try and keep pulling it out to a minimum. I generally have hand warmers in my pocket in case my fingers get cold, but usually don't use them cause shoveling get's everything warm pretty quick. When the ipod starts dying I'll throw one up against it and it does wonders for the battery life.

Never hurts to keep an ipod charger in your pocket if you don't have a car. Could plug it in for a while while you eat or chill in the lodge.

my phone shut off a few times today, once I put it back in my pocket for a few runs it would come back.

I can basically just echo what has already been stated. Keep it closer to your core body heat (inside jacket pocket) because the cold temperature slows down the chemical reactions inside the battery. If your battery can't produce enough power, your ipod/phone will behave accordingly. I have also suffered from the same issue on occasion.

i use the nano from 2 years ago, and it works fine even when it hits -30...so idk wat your problem is. Just keep it close to your body and it should work

On the cold days my iPhone won't work at all so I throw a hand warmer in the pocket with it in it and that manages keeps it warm enough to function.

I went skiing with some family today, it was like below zero the whole time. For some reason there was one of those tempurpedic (or however it's spelled) pillows in the car, and when we got back to the car it was frozen solid. Literally as hard as a rock. I didn't even know it was possible to freeze a pillow like that.

So in conclusion, keep your ipod warm.

but yea, to OP... the cold kills anything with a battery... ipod, phones, etc. i've never had to restore an ipod (of any generation) because of it being cold tho.. and i grew up in MN... if i left mine in the car over night, it would for sure be dead in the morning until i warmed it up via heater or holding the backside up against my leg or something to warm it up..

but if you're riding with it and its dying too fast.. put it in a pocket of your inner most layer of clothing, your body heat will keep it warm enough. not in an outside pocket...

its not dying fast its just freezing and shit. Like I said I had to restore it yesterday which pissed me off considering I've only had it a couple weeks.

yea my phone and ipod always freeze up and lose power with like 50% left but its only cuz the cold..keep it close to your body or put it in a ziplock bag or something so it at least has some insulation

Apple technology is very advanced and they have a fix for this. You just throw it in the freezer for a couple days and then it should handle that cold weather better than Rudolph.
