Well, we, your neighbors to the west, are supposed to have temperatures no higher than -17 C for the next couple of days. To be honest, I welcome the cold if it means that the snow will stay longer.

Yup I already made a thread about this. killington going to be 40 some degrees and rainy. Everyone says oh its just the january thaw, only problem is this is a record breaking january thaw... Welcome to the new winter weather pattern.

This is nowhere NEAR a record January thaw. It is an entirely typical January thaw in every single way.

There has only been one single year (1977) in the 119 years of record keeping that St. Johnsbury, VT did not experience a January thaw (definition of thaw is daily low temperatures above freezing).

Killington forecast for mid-mountain is as follows:

That is FAR from doom and gloom as far as forecasts go. It's essentially two days of warmer temperatures before we return back to near normal weather with a few opportunities for snowfall next week as well as strong likelihood of frigid arctic air for the rest of January and possibly longer.

look at killington record high was 58 and its going to be 52, while thats not record breaking it is pretty damn close. Now you are right when you say that it will drop back down and most likely stay that way for a while. But the undeniable truth is weather paters, particularly for the north east are moe unpredictable then ever.

Temperatures at Killington tend to typically be about 10 degrees cooler than Rutland due to topographical factors.

This weekends weather forecast is nowhere near record breaking for January as a whole. For that particular calender date, perhaps a bit closer, but for the month as a whole, it's incredibly insignificant, as well as being a very short lived thaw.
