Obama bypassing congress to make sricter gun laws....

It's allll over the news right now. I thinks it's kind of bs that he can just say fuck you to everyone and do what he wants. News anchors are comparing it to Cuba or other dictatorships. Do you agree with his choice to bypass congress?

yes, that same thread where i asked how you would defend yourself against a gunman after your dog is shot, and you replied by stating you would use a knife or baseball bat lol. how do the stats you mentioned have anything to do with your poor reading comprehension lol??? i never asked a question regarding an unarmed person..........a gunman is not an unarmed robber lolllllll. thanks for the help.

As I stated before that was a 20 page thread and I was posting every two minutes. And if you look in this thread alone I explained it to you five times. I read it as someone robbing you Because that's what I was talking about. I also told you multiple times that is not how I would not defend myself against a gunman. I don't know why you why you keep bringing it up I'm sick of having to explain it to you.

I'm saying you took it out of context because I've explained to you I would not use a bat to defend myself against a gun. I understand why you would said that once but after I've explained it to you multiple times you can't seem to wrap your head around it. And it seems you still think my view is people should use knives and bats against people with guns. Cause that's what you said five times in this thread and it's not true.

But it was all worthwhile, apparently:

"Inside the house we did find a lot of cats, dogs," said MPD Sgt. Karen Rudolph.

"I've been told there were raccoons, possums, chickens," she continued.

Well, that could not go on another minute. And according the WMCT-TV report:

Police say the suspected animal hoarder told neighbors he'd go down fighting in order to protect his collection of pets.

Yep, that's exactly the guy it makes total sense to execute a forced armed raid on, because he has, you think, more animals in his home than the law decides is proper.

But you are either a fool or are naive to think that you can legislate safety in our society.  For some odd reason people think they are safer without guns.  I have seen all this Piers Morgan BS all over YouTube professing how significantly less gun murders occur in Britain.  That may be true that there are less murders via a gun by the numbers, but that is because guns were removed from that society.  Criminals then turn to other means of causing violence.  Violent crime is violent crime, since when does it matter what vessel you use to kill someone?  They are dead regardless!!!

The only ones affected by these Assault Weapons bans are law abiding citizens.  I would love to see 1 statistic that shows how the 90's AWB reduced our violent crime in any fashion.   The deadliest shooting spree we have had in America happened with 2 Semi-Auto Handguns, not Assault Weapons.

everyone keeps bringing up cars and how dangerous they are. this is true. so we made laws regarding speed limits and drunk driving penalties and, over time, accidents have decreased. so it seems like you can legislate safety in some regard. obviously guns and cars are different, though.

i think it's odd that people think they are safer with guns. to each his own, i suppose. wasn't there someone at that mall shooting in oregon with a gun but they didn't use it? why? because people aren't heroes. common sense tells you that the moment you pull a gun on someone else with a gun you automatically become the primary target because you present a danger to that person so they are going to try and take you out before you take them out. if you see someone pull a gun on a bunch of people in public your response isn't going to be to whip yours out too, it's going to be to shove the gun deeper into your pocket, hope to god the shooter doesn't see you have it, and run. the only place a gun makes you safer is in your own home.

i think it matters since guns seem much less deadly than, say, a knife or a hammer, or a baseball bat. yes, you can kill people with other instruments, but guns make it much, much easier to kill than almost anything else does.

And just for the record that's not a statistic on assault weapon bans. that's just showing how guns don't always make you safer, Although in some cases they definitely can.

I don't see how owning a gun in a locked safe would make me more likely to kill myself?  That is a personal problem having nothing to do with guns.

Saying someone "is more likely to get shot because of owning a gun"  is like saying roads closest to your home are the most dangerous.  Are roads any more dangerous nearest your home?  Probably not, but rather there are more dangerous because you travel them the most.   Guns obviously have a risk associated with them and after hearing how my best friends uncle was shot and killed while pumping gas, I will assume that risk of carrying a gun in order to defend myself.

You have to pass a drivers test to be able to legally drive a car and you have to pass a background check to own a gun if it's not a private sale.  The same argument can be said to driving too slow.  Driving too slow on the roads compared to the speed of traffic can cause accidents and be just as dangerous if not more than speeding. 

Speak for yourself but if I am concealing a gun or carrying it on my hip and I see someone being robbed at gunpoint, or someone robbing a store I am going to stand up to them.  I am already witnessing them commit a violent crime so I am already a liability to them and not expecting a civilian to pull a gun on them I have the element of surprise.  If that person would attack you, you already have your gun drawn on them and can protect yourself and shoot them out of self defense.

But statistics show people who carry guns are much much more likely to get shot and killed compared to people without guns. Am I saying that we should ban all guns forever no but I'm also not saying that guns don't make people safer all the time.

Gun free zones have some of the highest violent crime rates of any areas in the US.

As for me, after being held up while on vacation, thankfully I didn't have anything on me, I have been in that situation where I would've liked to had a gun to defend myself but didn't.  There are a lot of people I wouldn't want to carry guns and I am thankful they don't due to the lack of training, but as for me carrying a gun is more piece of mind but to each their own.

there's a reason why when police approach a bad situation, they have their guns drawn and ready to go and demand to see your hands at all times.

If you're being held up, even with a knife, in the time it takes you to pull out your gun and be ready to fire, if the criminal wanted to stop you, he would. And if he didn't, then he clearly isn't going to harm you.


not to make light of your incident, as I'm sure it was frightening, but I'm just saying. If I was holding someone up with a knife and they made any move towards their waist band, they're getting stabbed immediately.

very true, while guns can be a peace of mind, they aren't an excuse to put yourself in a bad situation from the start.  It all depends on the situation whether you will have access to a concealed weapon or not, and after my Florida vacation incident that was 1 time too many for me.

I love how this thread has 10 pages of arguing, even though the executive orders have come out, and none of them take your guns. But simple facts do have a tendency to make all this panicing look a little silly, and really its much more fun to pretend the sky is falling.

I hate when people think you are crazy for saying something like this but I could not agree with you more. If the government wants to take guns away from the people and say that certain ones are "bad", why is it okay for that government to use those "bad" guns against their own people?

There is a huge shift of power away from the people when our guns are taken away. Keep in mind no one in my family has ever owned a gun, but I recognize the need to uphold the second amendment strongly. Our government has grown far too large and powerful and something needs to be done to slow them down. Our rights are being stripped away everyday and our citizens just turn a blind-eye. People really need to become educated and understand the risks of giving up gun ownership. I am supposed to be living in a "free" country and I really don't think anyone can say that we are truly "free" anymore.

but...they didn't take any guns from us. they're simply regulating them. and...they aren't using any guns against us. really not sure where you are getting the idea that the u.s. government is attacking it's own people with the weapons they are regulating.

again...they aren't taking our guns away, just regulating them. you ought to take your own advice, educate your self, and realize there is a different between regulating something and banning it completely.

none of Obama's 23 executive orders ban any kind of gun from being sold legally to the public. yes he wants congress to pass a law banning certain kinds of guns, but he himself didn't issue anything that stops people from buying any kind of gun.

okay. and that may or may not happen. the guns haven't been taken away yet. you are acting like they have been. until the laws are actually put in place dont act like your rights are being taken away from you. and if it does happen, that's hardly obama's fault, is it? he's not a member of congress, he doesn't decide what laws they vote through.

you don't think it's presumptuous to say obama has very little to no regard for the constitution because he wants to ban a specific type of gun? he's not even saying he wants to ban all guns, just a specific type. and from that you are concluding he gives no shits about the constitution?

and what's so bad about questioning the constitution? it was written 200+ years ago. things have changed. hell when the constitution was written it said slavery was perfectly okay and counted black people as worth 3/5ths of white people. that sounds insane to us today. surely it's a little narrow-minded to take a document written so long ago as the absolute truth about everything that should never, ever be questioned? it wouldn't be that hard to argue that such strict devotion to the constitution is more or less brainwashing.

I just cant wait for this nonsense to be over. Not much is going to change. No rifle ban, no semi auto ban. Just more in depth background checks which i totally support. Its kinda fucked that i can get a new gun in like 15 minutes. I think we should have to wait a day or two. Then i can go back to buying ammo and mags at reasonable prices

for other people with no training  or those who do not practice it might not keep them safer, but with my experience in shooting it keeps me safe.  I hope that I never will have to use my gun to defend myself but if that situation ever presents itself, I will take my chances going up against some gangbanger who holds their gun sideways.
