Filming skiing with a canon 28mm fd lens

would it be good for filming i don't have the money to invest in a new wide angle lens so would you suggest trying it?

well 28mm would work as a wide angle lens on a full frame camera (35mm) because that lens is an "fd" mount versus an "ef" mount. you would need an adaptor

also 28mm on a crop (t2i,60d,7d) is not considered wide

It definitely wouldn't work well for follow cams as a wide angle/fisheye, but I've used my 28mm prime lens to film some stuff in skiing, you just have to be a little farther away from the skier and focus more on your composition/keeping the skier in frame. I personally like to film at the 24-28 range on a crop sensor since it isn't as wide as a fisheye and I have more selection on what is in the shot and what I leave out, but you would probably like a fisheye/wide angle better.

BTW
If you have a T2i/other canon crop sensor, the FD lenses don't work well on them, I think there's something about them that makes them work fine on any other mounts (m4/3, nikon) but not canon.

wide enough for what? any lens under 17mm is considered "wide" on a crop sensor

In general you'd probably want some other lenses (a fisheye/wide angle specifically for skiing). If you have a canon kit lens just set it to 28mm and see what its like. A single prime lens wouldn't be good for general filming, unless you really like exclusively filming at that focal length which I doubt.

FD lenses aren't worth adapting to canon, the adapters use an extra piece of glass to make it so the lenses will work (flange distance is too large) so it degrades the image. There are tons of cheap 28mm and 50mm lenses out there.

I saw a guy who did something to the lens, think he scratched away a part of the barrel to make it work, does the extra distance mess with the focus?

Yeah and just the image in general, the lens is made to be closer to the sensor/film than eos lenses are.

Using an adaptor for FD lenses will change the focal length by a factor of 1.5x or something like that, plus 1.6x crop factor assuming you will be using it on a Canon APS-C DSLR... I guess it won't be wide at all, more like 67mm.

I'm assuming that you will get better results out of a 18-55 kit lens than out of this 28mm f/3.5 + adaptor.
