Tips for nutting up and shutting up with skiing

So I have a problem. I have and I KNOW I have the skills to to hit bigger and higher urban rails and trying new tricks. Yet this season I have been sketching out, heres the story. I went to hood for 1 week this summer and for some weird reason I tried everything had no fear just hit every rail I saw and was capable off. Also trying air tricks and taking 3's on bigger jumps and learning 5's. Early this season I was thinking man I am going to throw down and show all my friends who weren't at hood with me how much I progressed. But I didn't ,I sketched the fuck out on a simple urban down rail and just wont try shit and havent been so far this season. I think the reason at Hood was I was with a group of people I was trying to impress the coaches (pros). Yet I have been at the park next too many pros and dont feel pressure at all. My friends try to push me but it just doesnt work. I know this is all my fault.

I just really need some tips or ways to balls up and stop being a pussy.

Dumb thread. What else can someone tell you besides manning up?

But I find someone putting a camera on me and filming me makes me try shit I really don't feel like doing.

skiing is supposed to be fun, stop pressuring yourself. You need to understand that becoming "pro" isnt going to happen. So if you are uncomfortable throwing a 7 off a big jump, then dont do it. Who cares, you get to ski another day with homies instead of being laid up in a hospital bed. Not everyone is amazing at park. My best friend wont slide a 20 ft box because its scary to him but will send a 40 ft cliff without 2nd thought.

Do what you're good at, not what you feel you're supposed to be good at.

Well see I enjoy park alot! Nothing better then the feeling of greasing a rail or getting low on a tail press but im not trying too go pro or do some hucked above my level trick. I just want that feeling of satisfaction and HELL yeah you know. I hate being frustrated with my self. HATE it

you probably felt more comfortable at hood because its warm and everything is soft and it seems a lot safer than when youre cold and the ground is hard. if youre wanting to get your tricks down again just think about how youre going to feel after the fact. just think of the risk:reward ratio and how youll feel after the trick and that usually helps you want to go for it. also, forget about the fact that you could hurt yourself (which you probably wont on 3s and 5s) and just go for it, youll have fun

You're putting too much pressure on yourself and forgetting to have fun. When you're approaching the feature I bet you're not focusing on greasing the rail and riding off with that smug satisfaction you had over the summer, I bet you're just thinking about how embarrassed you will be when you pussy out again and how frustrating it is to not be able to show your friends the tricks you told them you could do. Then, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, the more you think about failure the more you will fail. So don't ruin your day trying to push yourself just to impress some friends. Remember when you were little and learning to ski and you didn't give 2 shits about rails and 3's and whatever? You were thrilled just to point your skis downhill and feel the wind on your face. Take a break from park for a few days, go explore the mountain, carve some groomers, find some pow, just feel the joy of riding for the sake of riding again.  Ride for yourself and don't put the pressure on. When you're ready again and you feel inspired and all you can visualize as you approach the feature is that feeling you had at Hood when you nailed it, then you will nail it.

and
B. hit a rail as much as you can. the more you hit rails, the more comfortable you are with them and you'll be more confident doing tricks and trying new ones. and get on a tramp if you can to be more comfortable in the air and gain better air awareness

get angry bout it. when i was scared of doing rodeos and cork 7s a couple years ago, i just got angry. not at anything in particular, but i just got myself really hyped up, thinking bout showing the bitch trick who was boss n stuff. don't think about comparing yourself to your friends, or showing off for them, just ski for you. skiing is about having fun and expanding your limits and doing cool stuff you didn't know you could do. your friends are there to have fun with, and to support you, not so you can have a competition or show off to. also, listen to some pump up music. get angry/pumped and listen to some pump up music.

for me there is a big difference in confidence (when sober) in summer and winter.

For instance, skiing hood (or any spring/summer slushy sunny conditions) you're gonna go bigger, because landings are soft, and consequence is lower…plus the warm vibe helps me.

when its super cold and ice is present…i back down and chill in the park haha

that's just me though

Your problem might be like mine was. I used to think I was amazing. Finally this season I just sorta was like wow I'm not that good and just started not to care if I fell in front of the best guy in the park. Atleast I was trying something. So once I came to the realization that I wasn't that good is when I sort of lost hope on skiing. Then about a week after realizing it I got the passion and determination to try and progress more and I didn't care what people thought. So once I realized I wasn't as good as I thought myself to be was when I started to progress

I agree but throwing that 7 off a big jump and landing it is probs the best feeling in the world. for me pushing myself to land new tricks and hit new features that id normally be afraid of is more fun when you land it then pussing out and not throwing down at all

i agree with who ever posted "skiing is supposed to be fun" i have found once i stopped thinking "okay you need to learn this trick now" and just do whatever i feel like in the park skiing has gotten alot more fun

OP if your motivation to ski is to impress your friends you're doing it wrong, if getting a k-fed on that urban downrail is something you think is fun then you'll do it but if you say i have to do this so my friends know how good i am then you're going to sketch out because there's too much pressure.

Right I agree with the pressure idea. But I dont want to impress them I want to throw down with them and just all have a good time and progress together.

oddly enough i go harder when its icy. something about the unforgiving conditions make me get real intense and i have a shit ton of fun on days when everyone else is complaining about conditions. but then when spring rolls around i'm like 'FUCK SEASON'S ALMOST OVER BETTER GO HAM' and then i go try even harder

Sometimes watching other people fall gets my confidence up, strangely enough. Just don't be afraid to fail, everyone does, even pros...can't get better if you don't try anything.

really falls aren't as bad as you think they are. and (more the most part) falls in skiing are childs play compared to getting wrecked on concrete in blistering heat
just keep getting back up and falls get easier

the less you think about it the easier it is. if you over think it youll get scared, falling isnt that bad. like i learned flat 3s on tiny jumps and i went from a 5 foot to a 35 foot, and i didnt even think about it till i was just about to hit the jump and your not as scared and it just happens naturaslly

warm up and do some easier tricks to get confident, then when its time, man up. 9 times out of 10 falls aren't that bad. also, once you try the trick that scares you and you either get it or have a mellow fall, your brain will be much more motivated to try again in the future. by consistently pussing out (no offense) your brain has been conditioned and is used to taking the safer route. also, don't put pressure on yourself to live up to a certain standard. harder tricks take more tries, nobody is going to care or judge you for not getting it first try. do new tricks because you want to, no other reason.

don't be an idiot, but don't be afraid to try new stuff either. you probably fell learning the stuff you have now and you're gonna fall in the future. so accept it, and keep learning in a way that feels comfortable to you. one of the great things about skiing is that you can work on different aspects and get better on literally any terrain. good luck!
