Park etiquette

When your next in line to ride the park, how long should you wait before going in after the person before you?

So far I have waited until I saw that the person had cleared the first jump. The problem with that is that the person could fall on the second jump and I wouldn't notice.

I usually wait until i see the person go over the first jump, If he looks sketchey in the air, like he might not stomp his landing then I wait till I see him ride away. Usually I just go as soon as they are out of sight.

Call it and go. How close you fallow the guy infront of you is all up to you and how confident you feel he is going to land. But when you call your drop - go, don't hesitate or wait around... if you know someone is going to snake you still go and either beat him to the jump, or hit the jump right beside/behind him. when you land inches away from him and almost take his head off he'll know better next time than to snake you.

yeah just have a yell, i reckon that everyone hates when the guy infront stax so they will always try getout of the way anyway. If someone drops in on you chase em down and tackle them hard, nothing worse that an impatient faggot that is cutting your cheese.

we always get trains of like 10 people to go like 2 meters after each other and just bust out mad oldschool/ newschool screwed up tricks and hit the wohle park doing that. some common tricks are the spaffy nutgrab, daffy grabs, huge ass twisters, cossacks, backscratches and you can just mix them up and grab them and stuff, its soo much fun.

that's nothing... we had a train of 7 skiers (3 sets of two followed by 1) super close to eachother, first two did spreads, second two did daffies, third two did spraffies, than the last guy (who made himself look like a huge yeti) did a real shitty 360 to crash to end off the train (we poached a jump during a big air at snow valley to do this... it was great)

we did what darryl was talking about...accept it was on x-c skis..and we had 5 sets of 2 followed by 2 singles...the first did mutes, second did iron cross, third did spreads, fouth did tail grab (each on a different side, so it looked cool) and fifth did backscratchers (which we found out dont work good on x-c skis) then the first single did a tweaked 3 mute and the second (me) did a 720....in the end there was about 7 or 8 of the 10 of us piled up at the bottom....it's really hard to land on x-c skis

I tend to never wait for anybody, fuck all the dipshits that stand around in the park all day.

I'm the dirty snake.. and i really dont give a fuck... i especially snake snowboarders...

its all about the rat pack, keep up with your friends, it makes you keep on your feet and get super sick super fast... if you plan on trying a new trick and you think you might fall... just yell obscenities at everyone, and tell them not to fucking go. it ussually works for me.

yea, i tried to say what matt just said, but i put too many words in it.

just keep doing laps and don't stop. if you know you're gonna get snaked just go anyways and yell at the kid.

'just tell the kid you're right behind him and if he screws up you're going to land on him. when you land right beside him he'll get the picture and be too scared not to look out for you next time'

It's all about keeping your rythem and just do laps, if you listen to music while on the hill you can take more hits too, 'cause when you call it - it's yours and you can't hear anyone bitch at you about you snaking them.

As I said before - Just call it and go - if the jump is a snake pit just do what Matt said and go right behind your friends, whatever gets you off that jump or in the pipe faster, who gives a shit about the little kids who won't even clear the jump anyways? If you can't keep up - get out.

The best way to know when to jump is by using a spotter. Even in the terrain park, you are taking blind air if you can't see the landing, so you are responsible if you land on someone... Of course, not many people do use a spotter, and in that case I guess your best bet is to make sure you see the guy in front of you come out from behind the jump.

I know I sound like everyone's mom, but being a park Nazi for the last 5 years, I've seen a lot... 7 yr old girl getting landed on = 2 broken femurs, lotsa combative head injuries, compounded ulna bone through a Japanese girl's jacket etc... The list goes on, so I do believe in safety first... It's just not worth it sometimes. A lot of times it's only a couple of seconds of waiting that can prevent serious injury. I usually wait til I see the guy ahead of me ski away before hitting...but if there are alot of people waiting you have to go before that or some stupid kid will go first. I especially hate it when some jerk skis up to the line of people waiting and yells'Dropping Next' when it's not his turn. I also hate getting cut off by guys becaus ethey don't think I'm actually going to hit the jump. I'm basixcally rthe only girl skiier in the terrain park at my mounatain so i have to be especially aggressive to get some respect. I usually pull some really nice air and surprise the guys. Anyway, If evryone shows some respect for their fellow skiiers and riders evry thing will stay great. Think SNow!!!

hey snogurl - ya know what's funny? the guys who show up in the big croud waiting to hit the jump and call dropping before all the people that were obviously there first are usually the ones who know their shit. it's just the way the park works. I don't wait in no line to hit a jump. I get there, and if noone has called drop yet, I call it as soon as possible, than I just go. if someone cuts me off they'll get a good bitching and maybe a threat or two.

this one time a group of us came up to the pipe and there was a few people waiting to drop... after a second and noone went I asked 'is anyone dropping?' got no responce so I call my drop and push off - next thing I know I got this stupid old fuck start yelling at me saying I cut in line, I made it my goal to cut him off on purpose for the rest of the day - people gotta learn the ways of the park...

Darryl's right. If nobody is going to call their hit, go ahead and call 'next!' The other thing people mistake is the fact that just because a bunch of people stop in the middle of a ski hill doesn't mean that everyone has to... In other words, if you keep moving with the flow of the park, you have the right of way to keep going without stopping. People who are waiting in line to hit a feature should look uphill before they merge with traffic in the park just like any other run! Most of the time I just blow right past the drop-in and give a 'dropping' real loud so I don't get snaked, but people just don't know so I do get snaked the odd time. People just don't know, so expect it every once in a while and don't get too upset. You've made mistakes before too.

the thing about just going past the crowd is that sometimes some fool will go at the exact same time as you even if u scream droppin at the top of your lungs. then u end up having to bal lats second or hitting the jump at the same time...the second choice is my preference!

the worst is when you call 'dropping' or 'next' and then people cut you off anyway...this one day last year i waited at the top of the inrun, going to try a corked 9 for the first time and a group of like 8 snowboarders all cut me off....and i didnt wanna rush myself or have to go right behind someone, seeing as how i was doing a new trick....so i sat there calling next for like 10 minutes while these snowboarders did grabs and shitty 180s....and i busted out the cork 9...landed, then ate shit....but i think i impressed some people

In fernie people are usually pretty good about park etiquette. If no one else goes, you go, if everyone is going one after another, you just call it and those who ride park regularily respect it, and those who don't usually get the idea. You do get the odd dipshit ski instructor who decides it's a 'good idea' to take his class of 10 6 year olds right through the middle of the park..and let them climb up the lips. That's what pisses me off.

at the park at fernie the older kids are cool but i wish skiing this kid was like 'do a switch unnatural disaster to 270' right when i was going onto their 'rail'-which was only a skinny funbox, I dont need kids to tell me what to do. I hate gettin snaked, normally i try to beat them to the hit, but it is hard when its a rail and they get in front of you and then stop right before it.
