Broken ski brake

The other day when I was riding my brake fell off one of my skis. the actual heel piece is still attatched and i can still clip in and out. would it be dangerous to ride them like that for a bit?

one side of the brake or both "prongs" of the brake?

if its both prongs, the definite answer would be yes.
if its only one prong, you would get some saying yes, but you would probably be fine as your careful, however if it does come off and doesn't catch, the ski will be gone and its out of your control what happens next, seem skis hit jumps in the park, pretty dangerous

I broke a brake last year and it ended my day after only 2 hours. Now I carry 4 backup brakes in my car so the ski shop can install them in case I break one.

really it just comes down if your boot fell out of the binding, would the ski be able to catch and stop. know what I mean?

You shouldn't really ski without a brake if you eject your ski is going to be coming down the run with some speed and not many people will be looking out for it. If your heel piece is still fine you can get a replacement brake put in for pretty cheep

This is true. A runaway ski could really fuck somebody up going down the mountain at 20+ mph and you would be liable for whatever medical bills they incur.

It's not worth it. Get it fixed and buy backups. I bought a set of 4 brakes for like $90 and haven't broken a replacement yet.

i had the same thing happen to me the other night...i am just fixing mine but i guess u could ride on them. i would rig up some sort of leash though

Yeah, my brakes broke twice this season so far. The second time I continued to ski the rest of the day, but I really didn't go in the park - I just took it easy on some simple runs. I have seen a rogue ski flying down the hill and they go fast. You don't want that to hit someone. You can ski with it though.

It depends... If lets say your boot came out of your binding... would your ski go flying down the mountain or would one side of the break or what ever is left, catch in the snow and stop it?
u can always just buy a set of brakes or just one, id say check online. i ended up buying a set for my fat skis and it was 62$ for the set!!
So check online first....

if you have a runaway ski, and it hits someone, you are liable and they will sue your ass for everything you have......

I've been skiing with no brakes for a season now and I decided how stupid I was to put other people in danger so I took my shoelace and basically tied my binding to my boot, kind of like a powder strap. It's not ideal but it's economica.

Yeah my brake broke last year on both skies and we raced then down the MTN.... Probably should get it fixed.

one time I competed without a break and I bailed on the last hit and it went a good 100 meters and off the trail

another time it was on the edge of the run and it shot off into the deep trees.

Ive had broken brakes lots. you can ski without them fine, but if you get a runaway ski you better be good at skiing on one foot so you can catch up to it. I tried using a shoelace aswell but that snapped the first time i fell. Id say get a replacement at any ski shop all you need is a screwdriver to change them.

I broke a brake the other day and went in to a ski shop at the base of my mountain and they fixed it and gave me a new brake for free, it was awesome. See if a local shop can hook you up

yeah careful with broken brakes.

Mine snapped in half at the heal piece landing a jump last Sunday, sending my ski 150 yards down the hill smashing into a guy standing in the trail. He was ok, but pissed. He was like "YOUR GONNA KILL SOMEONE SKIING WITHOUT A BRAKE!" Had to explain that it snapped on the last jump.

PX12 brakes fucking suck... had so many problems with them.

Bought them as park bindings, broke after less than a season. Rode maybe 3 more runs and got them fixed. Won't ever buy them again.

brakes just don't seem to have kept up with skiing, like my brakes break/bend about 10% time i bail landing switch, marker griffons, just seems like freeskiing desperately needs someone to find an decent alternative system
