Replying to Transferring movies (.mov) to iPad???

Hey guys so I need to transfer a few edits I've made to an iPad by next Monday.  I'm borrowing the iPad so I don't know much about them but it looks like you have to sync it through your iTunes to transfer files.  I just want to have an idea of how to go about transferrring a .mov file to an iPad before I go over to my friends house to put some photos/videos on it.  Is there any formatting I should be aware of that would be neccessary?  What program would be best to play the videos once they are on the iPad?  Anything I missed feel free to add.  Thanks a bunch!
