Line Mr Pollards Opus vs Blizzard Gunsmoke

I'm skiing Pacific North West, this would be my daily ski for all the time except for if it hasn't snowed in a few days and it gets hard.

What are your experience's with these ski's? Which do you like better.

Check out Blister Gear Review - they cover both skis. Everyone loves the opus, the gunsmoke is love/hate. Demo if you can.

I should add, since I ride the Opus -

Unmatched tree skiing performance.

Hates variable conditions.

Loves perfect smooth snow.

Very, very fun ski.

Softer than everyone says it is, but still a very solid, stable ride.

Stomps jumps like no other ski I've ridden.

So incredibly surfy smooth in perfect pow.

Doesn't like to go over 40 mph.

Get the 192 - they ski really short.

the gunsmokes are RIDICULOUSLY soft, and are a pure powder ski, go with the EP's

Seems the Opus is the way to go ...
Im 5'10 and 180 lbs
I'm thinking the 192's would be a little big? Although they would be a bit more stable than the 185's. The 185's would probably be perfect  ... your thoughts pls ( :

The Line Opus is one of the skis a am considering to add to my quiver. I was also on the fence for size. I am 5'11.5" and about 175lbs. I emailed Eric Pollard himself and he replied with this:

"I would go for the 192 if I were you, I'm 5'10 165 and I ski the 185, but its just enough length. If I were any taller I would ski the 192."

I'm not taller but I'm heavier ...so probably 192? seems so big :/

I would get the Sir Francis Bacon. It's much more versatile than the Opus and it has about the same amount of float. From what I've noticed even Pollard rides the Bacon more than the Opus

I would agree with you if it were anyother skier, but after watching this vide I believe if he's riding anything else he's making very little changes to the ski. He has been working on the Sick Day lineup of ski Line is introducing next year looks very interesting though.

I've watched that vid 20+ times.

I also dont understand how we went from the ep pro to the opus.
it just doesn't make sense to me. I think he rides something in the middle that is very specific to his style.

And do you see how incredibly similar the 125 is to the old ep? Its pretty much just missing tail rocker.

I'm pretty stoked for this lineup of skis. And if you go from an EP to an Opus or an old Bacon to a new Bacon the more surfy feeling in the ski is definitely noticeable. The newer ones also hold up a lot better on hardpack imo. It's just the modern basic argument that its not the width of the ski, its the shape of it that determines how its going to work for you.

Just easier to ski on piste.
Quicker turning and easier to get up on edge

do you have actual evidence saying that he doesn't ride his skis? why would he have a pro model and not even ski it?

Get the Opus. There is no point in getting the bacons, because if you going to get a pow ski, get a ski thats floats better in pow, also the Opus's do anything i want them to, including steep moguls, crud, not so much ice, but you get the point. Im 5 foot 9 135 lbs, and i ski the 185, so i would get the 192s if i were u, they ski like 50 mm shorter than they are. Also the opus looks so much better than the bacons this year.

The awkward moment when you're tip-toeing between 2 ski sizes and your height would point you to the biggest one, but you hear that EP rides the shorter ones and your balls instantly shrink.

Which ski is more versatile? Obviously the blizzard is better in crud, and the opus is more playful. What about Bumps, trees, busting through crud, skiing fast, but not forgetting about forgiveness after a long day..

Moving to the city this summer, Looking for a western one ski quiver to travel with next season, instead of bring 2-3 skis with me. Figured id start researching now.

I got the 192 opus this year to have a wider longer ski for pow to complement my icelantic nomad rkrs which are my daily driver. The opuses are incredibly nimble and fun for their size but if I were getting a one ski quiver I would take a look at the nomad rkrs. I have talked a lot about them in other threads and wrote a review.

The rkrs handle speed better, are incredibly playful, rail groomers better than any ski I have ridden, feel incredible in pow, and handle crud MUCH better. most versatile ride ever. I kind of regret getting the opuses at this point because the nomads are so fucking amazing. When I ride the nomads I get a huge confidence boost just because how easy and fun they are, but I don't necessarily have that feeling the opus. I have skied a lot of different skis and I can say that the simple act of turning on the nomads is the best feeling I have had on a pair of skis.

The opuses beat the nomads in untracked perfect snow but the nomads completely blow away the opus in all other aspects. I ride the 181 nomads but would recommend the 191s for extra float if thats what you want.
