So today was the first day out Ice Fishing of the 2013 ice fishing season. It started off as a cool early January day, pretty mild actually. (me and my dad almost fell thru walking off the boat launch...)
It was the prime time of about 7:30AM when we started setting up the gear, there weren't too many people out yet. It was a nice sunrise over Lake Congamond (Southwick Mass.)

After we had about 2 tip-ups set up each between me and my dad my dads flag goes up and the line is goin wild, then BOOM so does my dads friend! We got a double hookup on 2 hogs for the first minutes out of the season!

Once we get all set in and what not my flag goes up and I am stoked on what it's gonna be! It gives a mad fight and once I see it I am beyond stoked! Hooked up a nice pickerel... Not too shabby for the first of the season.

Then the action stops for HOURS (not counting the two sunnies I got on the jig rod.. Doesn't count though haha)
So my dad gets bored and ties up some bread to another jig rod and goes fishing on the ice.... For seagulls! He gets a couple nibblers then BAM we got one on! He manages to fuck himself up big time and wraps the line around his wing....

My neighbor was brave enough to go over there and help the poor little thing out without getting pecked. And he flew away soon after.
After that we caught another smaller bass and pickerel, and the new snow on the ice was melting pretty quick and the ice was getting pretty sketchy so we decided to leave... But for the first day out of the season, and not going at all last year, we managed to make a good day out of it! And probably going next weekend too to colder spots where this weeks rain won't effect it too much.
