In mid-2012, Steubenville Ohio players on the Big Red High School football team drugged a 16-year-old girl, urinated on her unconscious body, dragged and paraded her around at parties, and raped her. Most of the culprits went uncharged, but Anonymous is trying to change that.

Rapists are sick creatures.

A local woman is raped in her own bed. But now the alleged rapist's conviction has been overturned by a state appeals court.

The reason? The alleged victim wasn't married.

How can this happen?

Most of the kids still have twitter and shit. the two kids charged with the rape and kidnapping havent posted since the incident so one has to assume they're sitting in juvi or something as of now. You can read pretty graphic testimonials of what happened pretty fucked up. Poor girl didn't even go to their school so a lot of kids had no idea who she was and were all just making fun of her while it was happening. And yeah that kid in the video is a little fuck, but he was obviously drunk, you can hear some kids with sense in the video saying that the kids raped the girl.

That is so fucked. I have witnessed kids strip a passed out girl down to nothing and just leave her there naked. They didn't do anything else to here I am assuming cause they had all their clothes on. I stepped in though cause I thought it was completely fucked, got her friends and they got her clothes back on.

On another note this mentally challenged kid in my school wandered into the nurses office and stuck his penis into a girls mouth that was sleeping. Did not end well for him.

I think we should also talk about how rape exists in many form aside from the obvious cases like this. How many people in a relationship are pressured into sex when they don't want it? How many people start with oral sex and assume that they deserve to come or have sex even if the other person wants to stop? Also how the responsibility isn't on women to dress or act a certain way, but on men to not sexually assault or rape people. When we blame women it makes it less likely for their case to be taken seriously, and less likely for them to tell anyone or report their case in fear of being blamed for the rape - preventing their rapists justice.

Thats pretty awful, he's going to regret that comment. But, i kinda see where he's coming from, its not really uncommon for a girl to "cry rape" after say their boyfriend finds out she cheated on him. Now i do agree that its never the girl's fault, but there are definitely some girls out there that are taking advantage of that saying.

Is it not really uncommon? How many situations do you know the full story from where someone accused someone of rape? For all you know they could have actually been raped and then when everyone accused them of regretting sex they dropped it. Most of the time the rapist is going to say the victim just regretted the sex, so how would ever hearing that be a legitement unbiased point of view? Clearly it's important to take the trial in all cases to fair and just completion.

That way rapists can be caught, AND people will learn to take accusing people of rape more seriously. However, it's also important to realize that often there is not a lot of evidence, and if we want to stop rape, why would we side with the point of view that lets rapists off the hook?

What believing that excuse is, is trusting a suspect and believing them when they say they didn't do something. They obviously would have a pretty large interest in lying.

I think you are on the right side, you definitely know what's up I just wanted to talk about this, sorry if it seemed like I am attacking you.

In this case there is evidence, hence why people are so outraged and why comments like this are especially rediculous.

The exact situation i mentioned happened to an RA in my dorm freshman year, totally consensual in fact it had been going on some time, it was all good until her boyfriend found out. Then she told everybody it was rape, the RA got fired and kicked out of school.

I hate when people can't appreciate the usefulness of attempting to prevent crime by raising awareness about who is actually responsible and whose actions need to change. Looking at things from a different point of view through visual aids has no place on the internet.

So you think taking the blame away from women, making justice more accessible for them, and putting the pressure on the people who sexually assault people to be responsible for their actions is useless?

sure- there may be times when someone claims rape and it wasn't--but it is unacceptable to accuse a victim of this if you're not 100% sure. This coach cannot be even close to 100% sure based on the evidence at hand-- the opposite, in fact. He should know better- especially as an authority figure with influence on these boys.

does no one get this poster? The whole point is that someone can't prevent sexual assault on themselves-- hence the tips all being for the assaulters....ie: don't blame the victim or make them feel like they could have done something to prevent being sexually assaulted.

There are two political narratives associated in my opinion with this poster. The first is that yes, this isn't a real poster, but the message it is sending relates to the context where women are told how to prevent sexual assault, when really, women a) can't and b) don't have the responsibility to and c) shouldn't have their freedoms limited by people who sexually assault others.

So haha sucks for you - this poster isn't like, meant to be up in schools as a serious guide. I think you missed that. It is however, serious in the way it comments on the true way to stop sexual assault; instilling a sense or respect and community around ending violence towards women.


I'm sorry, I know you think you're strongly right but it's not that simple.

You're not going to eradicate violence by telling people not to be violent. It's absurd that you could think anything different. It's not like we have a culture of violence that can be changed with posters. No, we have a mostly peaceful community infested with a few violent souls. Changing the culture of the community isn't going to change shit because our current culture is already anti-violence. Telling women they shouldn't have to protect themselves against rapists achieves absolutely nothing.
