Ubuntu help? Computer people?

So I've got ubuntu running on my mac, dual boot with osx. But I'm having some stability issues. It seems graphics related, and I guess I'll have to start looking for graphics related software and bug fixes. But after I use it a while it just freezes up, or the mouse glitches around, I've had crazy graphics that look like glitch art, the pointer was invisible once (that was fun) and sometime all the font is squished together.

Anyway, is there some sort of app or program I should definitely have to help it work? Or something to help me diagnose the problem more specifically? Cause it's unlikely anybody will be able to help with my shitty description, hence why I need diagnostic tools.

I've got an intel core 2 duo mbp, running the 64bit ubuntu. Maybe I should wipe this partition and try the 32bit?

Also where are the program files kept. I was going to restore my chrome bookmarks by moving the bookmarks file from the default folder of chrome in osx and putting it in chromium's default folder in ubuntu. Or do I have to export them as html or whatever?

Any ubuntu tips?

A bit more info... First off I'm using rEFIt. Second, initially I partitioned my hard drive with a free space partition in order to boot and install ubuntu from a flashdrive, cause I have no cds. Now I have four partitions, which is odd because I didn't make those (not intentionally anyway). I've got my original mac hd one, one called disk0s3, DISK0S4 and Linux Swap. Only the linux swap and the mac one have something on them.

I'm posting from chromium on ubuntu now, I wiped the partitions out and reinstalled the 32bit os. And I switched to a nvidia proprietary graphics driver, which seems to have solved my crazy graphics and invisible pointer issue. Now all I need to do is disable the double click and drag thing, cause that's not working for me at all.

Quad post in my own thread...

But, I believe switching to that graphics driver disabled my screen brightness controls, and it's stuck on super bright... Anybody have any ideas how to fix this before my retinas burn up?

But seriously, you'll probably have more luck at ubuntuforums.org. I'm relatively new to Ubuntu, and have only used it on PCs and beagleboards.
