So this has always been a question of mine. I'm relatively good at skiing, i'd say just about average in the park, a little better. No doubles and stuff just 3's and 5's as of now because of early season, and like 270's off and on. Anyway enough of describing my "skill" i have always come into the trouble of my skis popping off a little too easy when i try a new trick. What are your din settings at? i know right now im probably at a seven. I ride the Look PX12. Too low or just right but im not used to it?
just saw someone break their upper leg on one leg and lower leg on the other side, partially to a too high din setting. Kinda scared of that happing to me now Oo. That being said, I have mine on 8-9 (depends on the skis + different bindings)
Thanks dude! I've come to the realization that there aren't many bindings that are built to withstand the impact of my perfectly stomped 540s over gigantic 35 ft tables.
You definitely need higher dins, the shop set all my shit to 9, and i would pop out if i landed going to fast or landed swicth front seat, or anything other than perfect, put them too 11 and now the only come off if i seriously wreck, pivot 14s for bindings if t=you were wondering
If your running at 13 or 14 ... You had to crank em way up yourself, being 6'3 220#, unless your BSL Iis like 250... Which would be tiny feet for your height.
5'8/140lbs/295bsl/din @ 8 because its the minimum on the px15s. Id rather be at 7 or 7.5 but its worth it to me to risk it to have the metal driver toe that i cant break after i broke the 12 din px toe.
So went to my shop up at my mountain yesterday and i told them i wanted my din tightened, they asked if i knew what i wanted it set to, i said yes, and the guy just handed me a screw driver and i did it myself. Set it to a 9 and i already feel a difference. Thank you for everyone's input!
There is never a sure thing. Bindings just give you a fighting chance of staying injury free. You can tear your ACL with a din at 3. Every fall in unique, and everyone body tissue has different strengths. Hopefully you didn't do anything too bad. Good luck.
But you can read up more on bindings. Certain bindings can be much safer for freeskiing than others. If they have a higher elasticity, you can ride at a lower din without prereleasing.
It all comes down to if you know how to setup your bindings. Most people don't, so they pre-release and shit when they shouldn't and they think cranking up their DINs is the answer
