looks to me like that porcupine was like "oh, sweet! a goretex tree! i'm totally going to climb up it and check it out!" and the human didn't so much like the tree-climbing claws...
we had a nice porcupine that hung out at the bottom of our chairlift- he was pretty cool. he'd come over and just sniff your boots and then go back to his sunny hang out spot. a few people petted him successfully. he did not get hand fed, and he lives happily in the area and hasn't ever bitten anyone to my knowledge. porcupines are cool and are pretty darned slow movers.
