How much speed for jumps?

I can do 3s on small jumps but I always get scared to go bigger because I feel that I will knuckle or go to far.... How do you know you're fast to go

scope the jump, estimate how fast u need to go and send it. There's no secret formula.

follow someone who has hit it before

go up to it with the amount of speed you think you need then slide up the jump so that you can feel how much speed you get as you go up to it. (speed check)

grow a pair and hit it

Look at someone else, or you can ski right after someone who you know have the right speed.

if its a regular park day with average speed don't pizza or snow plow. just go straight, once you're used to jump lines I would do mellow carves throughout a line

I carve into my spins so i always go into a jump with more speed so i can carve into the spin, get the 3 around, and then stomp it

Check the jump out, watch other people hit it, even ask people who have already hit it. If you asked me, I would tell you if you should go slower or faster than usual and if it has more pop or distance.
As for sending 3's, after 4 or 5 hits you will know your speed. Going into the jump, your mind will play tricks with you- telling you to go slower or sometimes faster but don't listen to it. You have hit the jump before with the right amount of speed. Do it again.

good advice in here. Also, be careful hitting jumps at the end of the day when the temps drop and the snow gets hard and fast. You will want to start lower in the inrun, unless you want to see the landing sail past you in the air. Did that today... it wasn't a good time.

28mph is the standard speed for park jumps, 35 for bc booters. notice how most pros have someone in their posse with a radar gun.

remember to go exactly 28mph every time, good luck son

Just take a few runs straight airing. Then do a fat 1. Then after do a 3 once comfortable with a 1. If you want to carve into it (you do it's a lot more fun) then get a little more speed for the carve and let that 3 float.

Some will argue a big 1 is harder than a 3 considering the switch landing.

Try to do a grab with your 3. It will bring your legs closer to your center of gravity and make you less likely to flail. Spread for jump, bring em in for the spin, spread for landing. You might try practicing those three motions in a straight air.

Bring a tape measure and an anglemeter (I forget what those mufuckas are normally called). Measure the length of the jump from lip to knuckle and the angle of the jump. Then calculate the speed necessary to land just past the knuckle using the knowledge that acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m/s/s.

Yup, the math will never fail you. To get your speed, you get an application for your smartphone that uses gps to determine your speed.
if nobody is around, check speed  the jump and see how comfortable your speed is. Your gut can tell you a lot.

Don't do fucking math... just air it a couple times. When I spin a bigger jump, I always seem to want to go too slow. Instead, I just go faster than I think I need to, and I always end up fine.

Just speed check it once or twice with a straight air then maybe try a 180 and once you're comfortable throw the 3. Easy peezey lemon squeezy.

Or you can just suck some D like Maverick.

watch someone else hit it and see where they start. find a place to start where you can bomb it and have the right speed. and from my experience its not that bad to knuckle a 40 foot jump..not sure about bigger ones
