Fly fishing for me doubles as a form of meditation. Everybody is different and has there way to get to that point when they can just relax and take a break from life. It is the feeling of being away from society (especially because the best fishing spots have no cell phone service) and being able to put all my focus into something I love, catching fish. It is not about the numbers, or catching 3-1 fish on a spincast, fly fishers share a closer relationship with the fish and it's habitat, this is very true for trout anglers because trout are so picky... And when everything comes together, the hatch is matched, my fly is turning over just right, the wind is not a factor, just me, my gear, and nature is when I am able to get to that point of figuring out what life is really all about... There is so much on my mind that needs to be hashed out, and it is ironic that adding all these fishing variables is what helps a fly fisher relax, but it just works.. The days of chasing aggresive fish with lures is fun a few times a summer, especially when the time is cut short. However, once I caught a trout on the fly I have never stopped thinking about the next hatch..
It can def be related to tele-skiing if that is what gets you to your point of everything seeming clear... repetetion, like the fly fishing cast, or the motions of tele skiing become ones form of mediation, similar to yoga...
