Who skis in the PNW?

How is the skiing up there (especially Mt. Baker)? It looks like you guys get a shit load of snow but I keep hearing different reviews, so I ask you NS. How is it? Is it worth taking a trip to the pnw?

all it does is rain. they put instant mashed potatoes on the slopes so when it rains it looks like snow but isn't.

Ok... What do you like to ski? Park, powder, bumps..? If its deep heavy powder you will love it out here. If your all about the parks then hit up Colorado. If you like bumps then I don't know where e hell you should go.

People exaggerate a lot about the rain. It only rains like 60% of the time which isn't that bad if you live here. For traveling I don't really know about it...

Colorado would be a better destination, Utah as well. Baker and Bachelor are meh, this time of year.

I live about 50 minutes east of Steven's pass.. I experience little to no rain, but lots of snow.

Oh wait, I'm supposed to say all it does is rain..

Theres not a lot of like fancy resorty accomodations, especially around baker. Maybe you could rent a cabin or stay at a shitty hotel. If youre ok with that and the fact that theres no predictability in the weather at all, then hit it up

Alright, I'm starting to think all this rain talk is a load of bull-shit. I mean it can't fucking rain at high altitudes like that in the middle of January, but then again I've only skied there once and it was in september so I have no idea. I guess there is only one way to find out and that involves me buying a plane ticket and flying my sorry ass out there to see for myself.

PNW definitely has titanic amounts of precip, but the temp hovers around 34 degrees. Could be snow, could be rain, you usually end up skiing both. Wet, heavy, mashed taters. On the rare days when its ridiculously sick, the avy danger is off the charts. Trips and vacations out here are seriously rolling the dice, worse odds than Vegas, go to CO or UT instead.

Pnw is a great place to live, but taking a trip out here would have to be a spur of the moment thing. It can either be really great or absolutely god-awful and it can change ridiculously quickly.

They need jumps. They have an air bag but no jumps??? I have not been their in 1.5 years tho. Also imagine getting your ski caught in between the tab and the top of the mtn dew can.

mashed potato jumps don't hold up well with all the gapers they have there. i stopped skiing at crystal when i found out they use the homemade red potato mix that has the potato skins still in it. like who the fuck does that?

It all matters what altitude your at. Its really wet most of the time but youve got get very high to get some dry pow.

Haha, the real question is what is that cave in LCC all about? The first gated road as you come out of the canyon. Security looks serious, but I've heard they store mormon secrets in there.
Also, I skied Mt Baker around thanksgiving. Day 1 was whiteout and raining, 18 inches of the heaviest mashed potatoes I've ever ridden. Day 2 was dust on crust, decidedly firm. That being said, they were some of my favorite days this season. If you really insist on coming to the PNW, do so for the people and the atmosphere at the ski areas, not the guarantee of 5% champagne powder.
