Im getting a pair of afterbangs in a trade but i need to take the bindings off and remount them. Is it easy to mount them by hand and what do i do to fill up the holes from the previous mounts?
Post in the thread or pm me about the steps i should take!
mounting without a jig is a bit of a pain. you need to get templates (on tgr) then if you want a solid template. drill out a plastic template, get the right bit for the ski, find out the right hole depth, measure up and mount. if you have to ask its probably not worth it. for filling previous mount holes wood glue and plastic plugs are used. i would say if you want your skis remounted go to your local shop and ask if they can do it for you and if you can watch/be shown how to do it, then you will get a better idea of how to do it next time. yeah you will pay for it but if they show you, youve just paid for a lesson in mounting and got your skis remounted.
I've used paper jigs and mounted up two pairs of skis before at home. But I'm also a certified ski tech and have mounted hundreds with proper jigs in the shop. I'd recommend paying to have a shop do it. The biggest reason really for me is it keeps your warranty's intact. If something happens and a ski/binding manufacturer finds out you mounted them at home they won't be covered.
My rossi freeski 120 heelpiece cracked, so I just unscrewed it, and put in a Look 14 binding, seeing as it had the same holes I just screwed it in. Am I ok with that, or should I bring it in to my shop to get heli coils?
OK I didn't know that. Gorilla wood glue would probably be OK if it's just like any other wood glue. Normal Gorilla Glue expands like crazy and won't seal the holes properly.
it can be done just do ur research and if u had a buddy who has done it before that would help two, my buddy and i mounted fks 15's on some line chronics and they came out awesome. make sure not to over drill your screw holes, and i used wood glue seemed to work fine.
Wood glue is what you're meant to use it is designed to give the strongest bond to wood and is easy to work with and clean up compared to things like epoxy.
