How to STOP Getting Shin Bang

Now, they will NOT get rid of your shin splints immediately. However, they will help prevent shin splints in the future. I purchased one of these a couple weeks ago, and I have been doing exercises on it since.
Use some ice to get rid of your shin bang, and do exercises on this little thing. It really will help prevent it in the future.

i have full tilts too and i still get shinbang but i havent found a way to get ride of it so far. i should probably bring them in to my local shop and ask them if they know anything more or something they can do.

I always laughed about the whole fulltilt no shinbang thing, than my bootfitter hooked me up with some and it actually completely eliminated any pain in my shins.

I didn't want to read through the whole thread to see if anyone had said this BUT, seriously shin bang and shin splints are not the same thing. Shin splints are from acute tears and the muscle shearing from your BONE when you run. The other is from mashing your shin against your boots. That's like saying, hey! Tired of falling on your elbows skateboarding? Here's a device that prevents tendonitis. Not even close to the same

But you are wrong, shin bang isn't caused by slamming your shins it's by straining the muscle by landing backseat. So they are very similar if not the same.

The owner of the ski-shop that I go to gave me an interesting tip that I found has helped me a ton with shin bang. He said to tighten the top buckle one notch tighter than I normally would, do up the velcro strap tight, and then put the top buckle back to where I normally would put it, and i found it helped.

But I would also agree that it is definitely something you grow out of, as you get both better at skiing, and bigger.

i bought full tilt to stop shinbang but the opposite kinda happened it pisses me off!

I dont have one of those but i asked the trainer at my school what to do and he said to walk around of your heels and gave me this rubber band to work the muscles in the front of your legs and it works great, i havnt had it at all this year

I was told shin bang is the muscle on your shin tearing off of the bone. If this is the case, the cure if you have it would be protein. Lots of protein. And yes if it is true the more you ski and the more you get shin bang, the stronger your shins will be and shin bang will only happen in extreme cases. I haven't had shin bang yet this year.

Stretching your calf muscles against a wall helps a lot (same thing the OP was recommending to buy but without spending any money, sorry OP!!). You literally just put the toes of one foot up about 4-6 inches up on the wall (before you get your boots on and preferably while you still have shoes on) and keep your heels on the ground. Then lean towards the wall until you feel your calf stretch and use your other foot for stability if need be. You can do this before the day starts, at the end of the day to "warm down", or whenever your boots are off. This obviously won't cure shin bang, but it will help stretch the tibialis (shin) muscles so that they are "warmed up" and more ready for whatever you are about to ski.
