How to STOP Getting Shin Bang

Now, they will NOT get rid of your shin splints immediately. However, they will help prevent shin splints in the future. I purchased one of these a couple weeks ago, and I have been doing exercises on it since.
Use some ice to get rid of your shin bang, and do exercises on this little thing. It really will help prevent it in the future.

it improves the flexibility in your longitudinal arch, muscles in your achilles area, and calves. It helps you ski in a more balanced position with your knees and ankles bent, getting your shin in good consistent contact with the tongue of your boot. basically it's a stretching tool, and yes it works.

You can get shinbang without being backseat.

And thanks K-Thomas for that explanation. I had no idea behind the actual science of why it works.

Can't tell if people earlier in the thread are being serious about full tilts, but the year i got some I stopped getting shin bang. I haven't had it since. So it worked

I hear doing your boots up nice and loose does the trick because the boot can flex more will prevent shinbang, cheaper solution

They're not the exact same thing, but both are caused by the same thing, repeated impact on a hard surface when your muscles aren't strong enough/positioned improperly, either way, this thing should hypothetically help with (if not remove) them both.

People say to strap your boots tight around shins to prevent it, but I think that makes it worse, if you keep the shin buckle looser your boot flexes more instead of it being like your shins are in pvc pipe.

Mine goes away quicker when I do get it if I tighten my boots up . Painful for the first couple of runs but it gets better as the day progresses. Or just take a day off and ice those fuckers if you have the option of doing so.

Hard tele boots are direct descendants of the flexon design. Your argument is invalid. But face bang while skiing switch teleing does suck

once you have shin bang you're fucked but if you always ride with your boots tight, especially on your calf, it's harder to get it because your leg can't be moving around in the boot

I'm assuming this is trolling...

You want a snug fit so that the boot is more so "a part of you" rather than chilling on your foot because when you land you and your boot should flex as one, opposed to your shin slamming against the boot.

question, i have full tilts and my outside leg muscles that are closest to my shin hurt both very bad on both legs. the pain laps over to the next day skiing as well, any suggestions?

that would be shin splints. keep your boots tight, deep (read: painful) massaging of the muscles will loosen them up and eventually alleviate pain, icing will help, as well as stretching

Am I the only person who truly NEVER gets shinbang? Sereiously never. The only time I have gotten anything close to shinbang was from coming up short on a 60 foot jump. No troll or anything. Maybe you should get boots that fit and learn how to ski FIRST, before becoming a parkrat.

My boots are fitted, and I'm not even a park rat lmao. I don't even ski park 85% of the time. It's possible to get shin bang without being a bad skier/having boots that don't fit.

That was just a general response. Not directed to anybody in particular. No offence, Leo. But I still disagree. I ride about 50/50 between park and all-mountain/powder. Yes, it is possible to get shinbang on occasion but, if it is a constant issue for you, then you are skiing wrong. Especially if your boots were fitted by somebody who knew what they were doing. Don't lean back while you ski. Stay on the balls of your feet and always maintain a direct sense of control on your skis. Also make sure your boots are tight but not too tight otherwise they won't flex properly. Good luck man. Shinbang blows!

Yeah, I understand you.

But I mean, I'm a big mogul skier. I know how to ski "properly". The reason I got shin bang was because the person who sold/fitted my boots sold me a boot that I couldn't flex, due to my size/weight/strength. So yeah, I understand what you mean when you say that people get shin bang because they don't ski right. Sure, that is true, but not in all cases.

Seems to me that OP is just pedaling some bs miracle cure for a relatively unavoidable problem. General skiing experience and even proper boot fitting will not help you if you under-rotate and land backseat from an invert. Best cure is time.

even if you have full tilts you will still get shinbang from backseat landings, especially landing backseat on flats. full tilts help a lot, but the key is, keep your shins forwards in your boots, keep your boots tight (loose boots have a lot of space between your shin and the front of the boot, which is where your shin hits) and don't land backseat!!

This. And I swear I think you grow out of shinbang. Everyone I ride with used to get it and now none of us get it... Ski through it. Ski as much as possible.

The other day I broke the metal hinge part of the power strap while tightening my full tilts. Maybe I like my boots a little too tight..

I'll probably go buy some booster straps, I've never liked the stock power straps from the beginning.
