Winter Camping with a Camera

So I have a t3i and am planning a winter camping trip on cross country skis and would really like to bring my camera. However, since it won't be in a warm environment, I fear harming my camera. Is there any way to do so without damage to camera body/lens? The only solution I have been able to think of is to sleep with it in my sleeping bag and, while I love my camera dearly, I would rather not have to sleep with it.

Anyone have advice for overnight cold weather storage of a DSLR?

No worries, it's less sensitive than you, as long as it doesn't get covered in water it'll be fine. You're more likely to have it overheat than freeze. The only negative of it being cold is that the batteries won't last.

I think it only reduces battery life, I don't think it will drain faster(as it doesn't much anyway(if at all)) when not in use), but it seems you really want a reason to sleep with your camera gear haha.

Yeah your good. My 60D camps with me often in snow caves. And he is right above who said battery life is diminished, so bring extras, and I have even tapped handwarmers outside of the battery compartment before, not sure how well it works, but it can't hurt.
