Mental Capacity

Can the storage space of one human brain be compared to a computer hard drive? If yes, how much space do you think an average brain has? Has anyone ever been known to fill up their brain so much that they can't take on any more facts?

How would it work - do we use more space storing "video" footage than just simple information or pictures?

Most of all, how much do you think you have used up so far?

I know that smashing your head off things negatively impacts the storage device. Other than that, not really sure.

I think I remember reading somewhere that humans only use 10% of their brain capacity.

There average brain can hold 1000 terabytes i believe. That super computer on jeopardy that IBM made had 16 terabytes.

The shitty thing with that computer was that it could ring in faster than anyone. Not saying it didn't know pretty much all the answers, but it had a huge advantage in the physical part of the game.

Also everything you hear, see, read and experience is in your brain somewhere its just difficult to remember it.

This happened to me one time. I decided to get all nostalgic and watch an epi of Hey Arnold on netflix. I chose a random one and as 5 minutes went by i remembered what the epi was about and how it ended. Even though i havent watched Hey Arnold in 8 years i still remembered how that episode played out, it was crazy.

So basically we don't have a recycling bin & we have loads more storage? I wonder how long it will take for computers to overtake storage size.

Since we're comparing our brains to computers. I've always found it interesting that if you fuck up one little thing soldering a circuit board, you're fucked. If you burn it you're fucked.

Yet your brain can be smashed and just totally destroyed from the inside and out, and still somehow skip over the broken parts and function. It's pretty wild shit IMO

What it means is that at any given time we use 10%, but we use all of it overall.

The whole 10% thing isn't true. It was based off of studies involving brain damage and assumptions based when we didn't know much about the brain. You can't compare data storage of a hard drive to the brain. The brain stores information based on connections, not 1's and 0's.

This is something I've always wondered. I've never thought about it in the sense of putting a number on it, but I've always been amazed that there seams to be no end in how much information you can retain.

In the past few years of my life I've been impressed with myself in remembering things in the mountains. Mountain names, river/creek names, logging road names and how to get around them, skiing zones and how to access them... Constantly learning new zones and being able to go to a zone I haven't been to in a few years with shitty visibility and still figure it out.

The human brain is awesome for sure.

interesting. today i was sending a trail i hadnt hit in years and was boosting cliffs and matching trannys perfectly. I was amazed I still knew exactly what spots were good with good landings
