In the last week there have been three deaths at three different resorts. One man was skiing at Squaw and hit a tree and died. The other was a patrol man at Alpine Meadows and they were doing avalanche control below him and he got caught in it, he was also a good friend of my cousins here is what Alpine had to say:
"The team at Alpine Meadows would like to acknowledge the loss of Bill Foster a valued 25-year member of our patrol. He was one of our best and most experienced patrol members and will truly be missed by the Alpine Meadows family. Our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with Bill’s family and friends. We also want to acknowledge and thank our entire patrol team for their hard work and valuable contribution to the Alpine Meadows experience." The other man was skiing at Donner Ski ranch another good friend and he got caught in an avalanche and died..the resort didnt start the search until 2pm and it had happened around 10!
There had also been an avy at squaw this week..there was a thread on that.
I just thought that people should know how dangerous this sport can be and I hope people try to be safer in the trees and wear a helmet because it could happen to you anytime... Also I know that the resorts try very hard to stop the avalanches but this is incredible that there were three deaths within a week.
Also right after christmas and the man that hit the tree had his grandkids up for a vacation to his cabin...
