Mac vs. PC advantages and disadvantages of each

Mac hands down, I had a macbook all threw HS then in college i took my loan money and got a macbook pro with the largest hard drive, and fastest processor I could get in a 13 inch, wish I went 15 in. I can run adobe programs and FCP all at once while running chrome and it doesnt even slow down. I love this computer. Super fast. If your doing any editing of photos or video go mac, if you going to school for arsty shit get a mac. Im going to film school right now and all we have are macs to work on, it will make your life easier

I am a mac user and I agree somewhat with what you are saying, but this really doesn't elaborate at all on what he was asking. $ wise a PC is going to give you so much more bang for your buck, you can get one that is so much more powerful for so much cheaper. Now with the new macs you cant even upgrade them without doing it through apple and its fucking expensive. Dont just get a mac if your only desire is to have a fast computer because as I said earlier you can get a way more powerful PC for way less, especially if you are on a budget. Personally i have a refurbed MB from 2010 that i got for Xmas last year and I haven't even been able to consider upgrading, but I do love the mac interface way more compared to windows, but you can just run hacintosh on a PC.

I use mac, used windows until about high school and could do just about anything on it, now I use only mac. I would consider switching if I build a hackintosh tower, but that would be after I graduate. What I did was wait until the summer before school, and then I got a maxed out 15in. Things still runs great, even a year and a half later. I am thinking about upping the ram to 16gb, and maybe an ssd, but I have no problems with it. Also, it can take a beating. As careful as I am, accidents can happen, and while I have been pretty lucky, I have had friends who drop theirs. The friends with mbp's get a scuff or at worst a small dent, and the friends with hp's or whatever get shatttered cases. Honestly though, wait until school, buy a nice one, and if you aren't reckless and aren't pushing the limits of any computer (4k raw etc.), you should be set through all 4 years. Also buy an external and use time machine.

Generally speaking PC's offer more power at better prices. It also depends on what editing software you're used to, if you're accustomed to FCP go with a Mac.

Got a 2012 13 inch pro not retina and im upgrading my ram to 16 gb and maybe getting an ssd , but my current drive is 500 gb . Seriously everything works flawless and shit is indestructible

also, don't go to best buy. If you want to buy in store, go to a local business, otherwise go online. I only like to go to best buy if they have a special on memory cards or something

Plus look on the apple store website and theres a thing for educational prices for students , you get like 200$ off your mac . For me i looked at that then called future shop and said apple gave me this price so he gave me an even better deal llolz do it its worth it. And for editing mac is awwesome

I've always sworn by Mac and OSX. But, I switched to adobe this summer and have no need for a powerful apple computer. I bought a windows desktop for ~1400 that wouldve cost 4-5k if it was a Mac Pro. Adobe runs so fucking well on this computer, its insane, 5-6 times faster (literally, exported an edit in 10 minutes that took 60 mins on my mbp). I have two 27" monitors and I honestly couldn't be any happier for the price. If I could afford to drop $5k on a Mac Pro I probably would (or a baller iMac setup which would be like 3-4k). Either way, it comes down to what you're going to use. If you're going to use adobe, id recommend getting more bang for your buck with a windows computer. I will still be using apple and OSX for everything else, I still like apples OS over windows any day, but I can deal for just my editing computer. My 2 cents.

was the edit that took 60min to export on your mbp from premiere or final cut? I feel like premiere is just a quicker export in general.

It was premier, but its about 5-6 minutes and every clip had MB coloriasta on it and it was a bunch of different codecs combined, it was a gnarly timeline haha
