Replacing Afterbangs

Hello everyone, I started skiing a couple years ago and bought some 177 cm Afterbangs for really cheap with Look PX JIB bindings. This set up has been fine so far but I am definitely moving out of the park more than I thought I would and find this set up to be a little heavy for me. I am 5'9" and about 145 lbs. I would still like to have a set up that I can take in to the park mostly hitting rails and nothing huge for jumps, 30 foot max. I really want something with a low swing weight and something light all together, also with maximum flex for butters and ollies. I am also going to be making trips out west maybe once a year to ski powder so I would love something a bit wider (90mm+) I could mount maybe -3 to -5 cm that could perform comfortably in powder. I have been looking mostly at the Armada ARV and the Line Chronics. They both seem to be pretty much exaclty what I'm looking for just not really sure how they compare to each other. If anyone can help me out with the specifics ie. which of the two is lighter, has more flex, flex patterns of the two etc. If I were to buy the ARVs should i go 165 cm or 175cm? or if I go for the Chronics 164 or 171 judging by my height+weight? I was also looking at the Line Blends, which turn me off because they seem heavier than the ARV or Chronic. Also any thoughts on the K2 domain or sight, Volkl kink, or Salomon threat or Rocker 92 or anything else that I don't know about?

I am also pretty sure I have decided on Marker Squires for bindings because they are the lightest things that are affordable that I have found

Price is some what of a factor but not too important, I would obviously buy the cheaper of the two if that's the only big difference. If anyone knows where to buy either of these used with squires already mounted for 26.5 boots I would be the happiest guy and buy them right away. Or if anyone wants to trade for some afterbangs ;)

Go with the chronic, the rocker will make butters and presses easier, as well as perform better in powder. Plus they are closer to symmetric and they have a symmetric flex. If you were hitting big jumps most of the time then I would say the arv, but I think the chronic is pretty much the way to go

The chronic is pretty stiff though. If you dont have a lot of experiences buttering/ollying on your afterbangs, then itll be tricky learning on the chronics.

the TC doesn't seem to be the fit, it is pretty much a jib ski and can't really handle all mountain

Get the chronic forsure symetrical flex, camber, early rise and it just shreds the whole mounatin, i have a pair and i love them

Chronics all the way!! i got em, they are prolly the best all around ski you can get. I chargbig mountain with them but i still prefer my pow skis. they are flexy enoguh you can pop nice butters/ollies with em and still drop 25 ft cliffs, i would recommend -2 cm i recently got em centered (i mostly sue em for park now) and i can still drop cliffs on em. Also they are insanely durable and sickest graphics!!! in your situation id probably go with the 171 but it depends on how long you personally prefer them. But chronics 100%

Squires are straight up one of the shittest bindings on the market. Thats not to say they won't work for most light weight skiers (almost no one <140 pounds skis aggressively enough to actually break a squire) but why not buy a more quality binding?

i'd say they are one of the better 11 DIN bindings out there. obviously you cant compare them to FKS 180s, because they are for completely different riders.

For riders under 150 lbs, there's no real point in getting a heavier binding.

yea but they are fairly cheap and probly wont break when hes using em. i personally wouldn't get hem, fks all the way, extremely expensive doe

So you want a buttery ski primarily to use in park that can handle a little pow and all mountain use?
First off you want to be in the 175cm region.
Forget the Domain (too soft for all mountain),Sight (not buttery), Threat (terrible ski) and kink (too narrow).
So that leaves the Rocker 92, ARV, Chronic and Blend from your list.
All of which are good skis, judging by your description, the Chronic is stiffer than what you want. It's butterable in the tips but pretty stiff underfoot, not a stiff ski but compared to your Bangs it is.
The remaining three:
ARV is the lightest and best on groomed.
Blend is the softest/ best in pow.
The Rocker 92 holds up better at speed due to being a bit stiffer than either.
I personally ride the Blend and it is my favourite ski out of the three. It's very soft though and I also have a pair of TCs.

Thanks so much everyone!! After all that I'm kind of leaning more towards the Chronic because of the early rise and because they are wider underfoot (as I would want the 165 ARV) and the difference in weight and flex seems to be minimal, can anyone confirm this? Also I went to a new ski shop today and the guy recommended me Nordica Soul Rider which also has early rise and is wider than any of my other choices by a bit and felt pretty light in my hand and seemed to have decent flex when I tried to bend it with my hands, however this guy was a bit of a dink and didn't really have any answers when I asked how the weight/flex compared to the Chronics. I'm kind of attracted to the ON3P Jeronimo too now that it has been mentioned, anyone know the exact weight on these puppies, or at least how they compare to lovely Chronics?

I dont know where you got your info from, but I work at a ski and snoboard shop and the squires are one of our highest selling bindings. I ride them myself on all my set ups and they seem to work great for me. Not a single problem. From personal experience and our customers I would say they are a good choice for park and all mountain. Every binding has its positives and negatives. I would recomend the Squires to any friend of mine. There are better bindings out there than the Squires, but for those who are on a budget these are a great option.

if you're going out west, and riding out of the park a bit more, but still want a softer ski. I would suggest either the Line TC skis, because of the flex patter pretty much identical to the afterbangs, but they are wider than the Chronics, (93mm under foot for the TC's) and because of the cap construction they have a low swing weight. thats my suggestion if your riding is >80/20 park/all mtn go with the TC's. If your doing <80/20 id suggest the line Blend, 100mm underfoot and it isn't symmetrical.

here's a run down

Chronic- not symmetrical, wider in the TIP and Tail than the TC's
i would compare the Chronic (http://lineskis.com/skis/chronic-1213) to a skinnier Blend (http://lineskis.com/skis/blend-1213) but w/o the early taper.

TC's- very much a park ski, symmetrical comparable to the afterbang (http://lineskis.com/skis/afterbang-1213) but wider underfoot, there fore better for getting through a bit of powder. http://lineskis.com/skis/traveling-circus-1213

i ride TC's but i ride 100% park. so thats not much help, u could mount them a little back of center.

Hey again everyone

I still haven't bought new skis (probably going to wait for ski shows next fall) but I've been looking at lot's of other companies. I really like the moment tahoe, really wide and light, not sure how soft they would be though, but that's less of an issue. Also really dig the Scott Dozers, also quite wide, not sure about weight and flex though, i've heard they are really light as well. Both less park oriented than all my other choices so far but still the tahoes are way lighter then the afterbangs, I imagine the dozers are too.
If anyone knows anything about the Liberty Helix I was looking at those too in 167 cm, they are the same weight as the Line chronics yet a beefy 105 underfoot.

if your considering a ski that wide look at the line blends i love mine, slay park then go ski pow on one ski, really flexy supper fun.

Tahoes are pretty stiff and 167 is at least 10cm too short.
You want at least 175s in whatever you get.
To be honest if you still want a flexy ski for butters and ollies you are looking in the wrong direction.

There are tons of midfat all mountain rockered skis that work well in park and pow, every company makes one.
Line Blend/Bacon, K2 Kung Fujas, Rossignol Scimitar, ON3P Jeronimo, Moment PB&J, Nordica Soul Rider etc (that's just off the top of my head).

Rocker 92 it is rockered and very flexible but can still preform on rails and jumps like 30ft. they will also handle the pow nicely. they are pretty much the redesigned 2012 witch was oe of their park skis last year.

If you need a new ski, go with the fat-ypus A-lotta. Its 140 underfoot, and everyone knows your abilities as a skier and your abilities in bed are determined by how wide your ski is! Never get your sexual orientation questioned again!

I know about a lot of my buddies at my local hill and they bought Squires and every single one of those bindings is messed up from regular use in the park, and even just use from an all mountain rider. Those bindings are horrendous in my opinon. I have tried them and they dont click in after a while. You have to lift them up with your hand... and no, I checked the bottom of my boots for snow. They seem like they would be worth it, but look elsewhere. You dont really want to skimp on any bindings, since they are keeeping you from literally dying, especially if you are looking for all mountain skis that you can take out West. The terrain out ther is not usually for beginners. I have learned from experience to get the best bindings possible. I had marker Free 10s last year and learned that they are only good if you are small and a beginner. I was only small and certainly not a beginner. I popped out of those bindings atleast 15 times a day. I had them checked at the end of every day and Had to keep raising the din. I finally was at the point where the din was too dangerous and I had to deal with them popping off. I now have the best Bindings you can buy (tied with salomon STH) FKS 14s they have saved me more time than I can count, and its barely the start of the regular season. You will learn to hate those bindgins OP, so do yourself a favor and buy good bindings. If you buy markers, go for a nicer one, but I wouldnt even do that.
