symphony is fucking pointless...it takes like 10 extra minutes to skin over from harmony to get to flute


they used to have the w/b master plans online but i think they took them down, but out of anything i saw on them there really wasnt anything that opened up new terrain.

man more chairs is not a good thing, that only means stuff gets tracked out faster. And that would never happen,it would just allow clueless tourists instant access to the bc.

gondola up from function junction. keep the day tourists out of the village and open up that whole side of the mountain. imagine skiing the cake hole and not having to hike out for 5 hours!!

all this would do is spread out the skiers more so we would have more untracked terrain and makes lift lines shorter. trust me lots of clueless tourists already wind up lost in the bc.

Also, ya they should gradually add more chairs but only if they get busy enough to warrant further expansion. Ive seen their master plans, for both adding chairs and cutting new runs, and they would add some significant new areas, so i dont know what that other guy above was talking about.

what terrain exactly would they open up? i know there was one going down to kybers, but other than that it was all pretty much with in the resort

When I checked their master plan about a year ago this was actually scheduled for something like 2020 along with a lift in Kyber's. Might be nice to have a third base area, but that's just so far out of the way from everything.

The nearest improvements from what it sounds like are to replace Emerald with a 6-passenger and Harmony with an 8-passenger chairlift, and also to replace the cabins on the Whistler Village Gondola with sit-down 8-person cabins. On Blackcomb they are planning to replace Crystal with a detachable quad and relocate the bottom terminal to below the Blackcomb Glacier road, as well as extend the Excalibur Gondola to Glacier Creek Lodge.

the lifts in that pdf that would go up ruby and the other end of the glacier would be really dumb..like spanky's gets skiied out enough already I think. The idea of making crystal go down farther is cool but id miss the old one for sure.

Basically how I feel. It'll be way better for coming off the glacier or even ducking into cbc trees for a bit. But half the beauty of crystal now is that it deters people with its slow speeds.

Never gonna happen, not with 3 mountains in van city and considering how big whistler is, they are however getting a 6 person chair on 7th heaven and replacing cat skinner with the old 7th heaven chair

Looks like Harmony will be replaced with a 6-pack next year (for 2013/2014) and the old Harmony will replace Crystal. It will run down Cancerman to Glacier road, so you will be able to lap CBC off one chair.

The rest of the lifts are 5+ years out, with Khyber and a few others adding new terrain on Whistler. Not a fan of a lift in Khyber and another base area, but they have to expand somewhere.

Also Symphony is a great lift for distracting tourists, for some stupid reason they all love it and 7th Heaven.

wicked triple post tim.

I think if whistler were to do anything it would be to expand their summer operations before more winter stuff. I think whistler is in a good position and doesn't really need to do much right now. Maybe expanding into the valleys between whistler and blackcomb might work, but it's been awhile since i've spent a lot of time in whistler.

The problem with Whistler/Blackcomb is the sheer volume of people that can ski good. Even with the mountains being as large as they are, on a good day with 30Cm+ dump everything gets tracked out within an hour or two tops.

Whistler/Blackcomb offers some incredible slackcountry options. The chair up Piccolo was pretty unnecessary as I've counted the boot pack up the ridgeline, and it was only 300 steps or so to be able to launch off the top cornic for about 10 decent turns down the pitch. They should have made it run up Flute, but then they'd open up the terrain/singing's pass to too many gappers who shouldn't be back there. It's an easy enough boot pack up that it's already getting more traffic than it needs.

A good spot for a lift would be up the horstman glacier underneath the windlip running back up from the bottom of Spanky's. Maybe just a T-bar to help keep traffic down, but that would just result in all the surrounding terrain getting tracked out even faster.

Moving the Quad to Crystal is a great idea. While a 6pack on Harmony, and 7th Heaven being a showcase run for lots of intermediate skiers.

Kybers pass is no secret anymore, and having a lift there would destroy what's already been tapped by too many Japanese snowboarders, and Aussie dingo bastards. Oi, Mate Lanch El Flatso on Million dollar ridge it will be heaps epic!

There's no question W/B has a massive amount of terrain, and even locals that have been there for over 5 years can still find new secret stashes year after year.

I would personally love to see the huts project move forward. It would open up many more possibilities for those that like to go for overnight ski tours, creating a more European like ski touring system back there.

At best the biggest Alpine Fall line vertical pitches in the area are all about somewhere under 1,500 vertical feet (if you're lucky).

There's no question getting first tracks down CBC tree's, or first down Excitation, Elevator shaft, the Coffin, Aids, Ladder chute, Grey Zone, Exploring the singpass poop chutes, Aids, DoA, Husume Couloir, The Sudan, Purple Haze, Kybers, CakeHole, Cowboy Ridge, & beyond first tracks down anywhere is mint, any where you can get it steep enough to make it entertaining.

Does Whistler/Blackcomb need to "open" up more terrain? No, something's are worth earning, what else would be left if it were easier access by noon. Not a whole lot.

I haven't even shared any of my real secret tips on the mountain something's are better kept "Locals Only", and to be frank I was just a tourist who happened to stay for a few year's... WhisLa

On a good day when the reset button has been hit and there's a good dump. Inbounds resort skiing should be about a couple hours worth depending on where you hit, and do your laps, then you should be moving away from the crowds, and going after the real good stuff.

They had a night pipe which was cool, but they failed to make any money on it so they pulled the plug on it. They wasted a ton of money on that pipe, and it's too bad they didn't keep it going.

Both parks are way up high, and again for them to develop a 'night park' lower down, it's not worth the cost for extra seasons pass holders to lap park.

I completely agree. I hope it never happens, peak to creek is one of the most fun runs I've ever done and it was also effect the aesthetic value of the peak to peak ride. But it's an area to expand into, and can allow for more in bounds terrain.

Symphony is a useless lift. The only worthwhile terrain accessed is Flute, which you can get to without Symphony by sidestepping for a minute then skating along the cat track.

7th Heaven, the actual terrain you can lap from the lift is rocky crap at the top followed by flat trees (Reservoir Trees are ok but short), Chainsaw I would not consider 7th Heaven. Anything good off Blackcomb peak you need to hike/tour to and is not inbounds anyway.

Awesome last few days at WB, no crowds either (yet). And man, TONS of idiot Japanese snowboarders in Khyber, it gets destroyed first lap almost now, sad really, need more people getting lost and skiing down to Function to scare up some fear.

a buddy and i were 2nd and 3rd past the stu on friday, it was unreal in there. flat cliffs landing felt bottomless. bootpack up to orange trees was kinda a nightmare being the first couple people up there.

i did see this guy go flying off a cliff in orange trees at mach 10, right into tight trees. no idea what he was thinking, he was totally out of control and lucky he didnt hit a tree. i thought he was going to kill himself.
