Use laundry detergent that is"residue free". It is basically meant for sensitive skin so it is less harsh on your materials but will still clean it. Wash with cold water.
Hmmm, on all of my jackets it says to tumble dry low. I wouldn't think that having a soaked jacket would be very good, and it would take like a really long time to dry by hang drying?
it takes about 8 hours. heat from the dryer melts the waterproof coating and clogs the pores in the fabric. by putting your jacket in the dryer, you are basically ruining the waterproofing and breathability at the same time. of course low tumble dry isn't as extreme as a full on high dryer cycle, but it still can hurt it.
