you get it man.
ive done some expeditions through wyoming (Gros Ventre wilderness mainly) and Idaho and there are some incredibly remote places out there that are just awe inspiring. That being said, i would not do everest. Just from the amount of responses in this thread saying that what they want to climb is enough for me to be turned off. someone said it up there already but its really sad how commercialized and absolutely FILTHY everest is. You can hire sherpas to carry all your shit and just walk behind them in your north face munching down clif bars and throwing your wrappers everywhere while they lay ropes and test snow. its fucked. some friends of mine actually went to Eveerest for a few month just to pack out the insane amout of garbage that ignorant claimers throw around because they just want to climb everest. its really to bad, people dont get it. some even posted a picture above claiming they hiked mettlehorn in a cotton tank top? people dont get it anymore.
whew. i gotta stop.
ahhh, i feel you dude. i grew up hiking all over the ADK as well and to this day some of my favorite backpacking triips have been there. gothics? gorgeous! i love the area, the adk have some amazing history as well. i really wanted to finish the high peaks over there before starting the whites, but life took me to NH, so ill have to live vicariously through others getting after it.
but i totally agree man. mount washington is beautiful, but its pretty sad home commercialized it is. when i last hiked in october we got caught in a little blizzard at the summit, your typical frigid mount wash weather, and we were all bundled up and freezing and when we summitted there were people walking around in shorts and sandals because they drove up. sadly, the same can be said for franconia, im sure you nticed how insane the ruts are coming down from greenleaf hut, but it is such beautiful country. i actually took part in a rescue up there with a few classmates of mine back in september when a guy from boston dislocated his hip between lincoln and little haystack at like 5 in the afternoon and we got him down at like 3 in the morning. haha, very familiar with the ridge now.
