Why are these skis $1,900.00

what sort of idiots are behind this? I mean read the first line; "Until now, there hasn’t been an all-mountain ski that rides well in any conditions."  that is pretty much exactly what an all mountain ski is designed for,  but why are they so fucking expensive?  its just a wood core that they soak in a glue made from waste materials and wrap in carbon. sounds simple enough, how can they justify selling these for what I could probably buy 4 pairs of high performance skis with?

they sort of contradict themselves if they have 3 different models in their picture...if it's not just the same graphic

Well Volant is still in business and their titanium, carbon, kevlar skis go from 3000 euro to 8000 euro and beyond.

There is a market for brands like Zai, Volant and Lacroix in Europe.

Hell these Lacroix's are only 50.000 euro and come with their own trunk and matched accessories:

pretty much this. although most people on this site cant afford or want something like that, freestyle skiers are only a small part of the overall market. think about people at sun valley, the celebs that own houses there. they would probably buy something like this. they are probably good for skiers who dont want multiple pairs of skis, and dont have the skiing ability to make a normal all mountain ski work well.

however, i have personally not noticed any problems with current all mountain skis. something mid fat (around 100 underfoot) with camber and tip and tail rocker, stiff underfoot and slightly softer in the tips, is a great all mountain ski

Correct me if I'm wrong but from what i can gather from this:

'Wagner engineers pressure-soak soft, light East Coast timber in a epoxy resin derived from paper mill waste. When hardened, the resin turns the wood into a plasticized block. A double helix of carbon fiber woven around the core adds even more lateral (i.e., turning) strength. The resulting skis are so light they could offer relief from hip-and-knee-straining hardwood models, and so versatile they could replace stacks of skis in lodges and garages.'

Is that it's a hybrid core ski (Carbon and Wood) which they've then put with an epoxy made out of waste products in the lay up.

For people here in Jackson. They're the ones that make me money.. We sell a ton of high end high price skis almost everyday.

Had a family come in tonight and set their daughter up with top of the line race skis because she left hers at home and didn't want to rent

Nice, wish business was like that on the east coast, but we are a higher end shop too. We carry the ze folkl v wachs ( v werks ) 1300 dollar ice coast carvers baby!

Wagner makes fully custom skis. They build it for you by hand and you create your own shape ect ect. Folsom charges 1000-1300$ for a comparable service but you have to choose and existing ski shape. I know you can get a fully customized ski from Folsom as well and I imagine it is similar to Wagner in price. Anyways that is why they are 1900$.

But the weight reduction only comes from the fact it's a hybrid (carbon + wood) core surely?
