Why cant we be friends?

Why cant all skiers just get a long? i ski at schweitzer all the time and im in the park for a big portion of that time, not once have i ever heard anyone say anything nice. All i hear is hurtful criticism, for once i would like to ski in the park and actually feel welcome to ski and have fun, i mean, isnt that what skiing's all about? having fun? correct me if im wrong but i just feel like if people would actually encourage each other, it would be more fun and people could enjoy it more.

I see what youre talking about. Its why I ski with friends, because i know their hurtful criticism is all jokes and if ever some douchebag starts mouthing off for real, then ive got a group to help me beat him up. Fuck disrespect

according to ur other threads from 2012 ur a beginner. lot's of skier think they can laugh about beginners or skiers without style or flailing around. and they often forget hat they have been at this same sutuation once! i have to admit i often laugh about some people in the park, about funny crashes or if someone looks like he better learns to ski first, but not into their faces. and if someone asks me for a tip, i'm helping who ever stands infront of me!

I feel this way too, I ski in europe though mostly and in France this is a problem to no end, everyone everywhere is just around bitching, its ridiculous.

In the early days the park was the friendliest place ever between skiers. WHen you saw each other in there it was instant camaraderie. On the rest of the mountain you would get hate from angry hippie locals that felt you weren't local enough to use their mountain.

I for one agree, its fun to meet other skiers and share the stoke. I think we should all try to do more of it.

I think we could all learn something from each other out on the slopes. We need to stop being so worried about who the new guy/girl is on the mountain and see that there is a growing family to help us enjoy the slopes. If we saw each and every skier on the hill as a fellow friend who also enjoyed skiing, I think that single amount of common ground could unite even the most different of people causing a very friendly and laughter filled mountain

the thing about the park is that its mostly teenagers rearing with puberty. just like bear cubs who try to wrestle with their mother, its natural for teenagers to be obnoxiously confrontational. its a faze (almost) everyone goes through and usually it takes time to grow out of it. learn to laugh at people who think its cool to be a dick. they are wrong, and knowing that puts you a step about them. its always better to be the bigger man if someone is getting in your face. chuckle, say "alright dude, whatever you say" and ski away and enjoy your run.

10 Years ago when I was 19....I had a dude almost land on me after I fell doing a 3. I start walking up the landing to get my ski, and he lands about a foot next to me. It just so happened he was a snowboarder. Doesn't make a difference. Well, I yell at him and he turns around and screams some shit at me. A couple of runs later I see him sitting at the top right by the lift, and as my chair is aproaching, he is still talking shit.
I get off the lift ride right up to him, as he is still talking shit, and completely tattoo him right across the cheek with my pole. In 15 degree weather. I swung it so hard it made that whip sound going through the air. That shut him up real quick. I agree the park should be about having fun, and helping one another, not bashing, making fun of, or overly criticizing. Now I am not saying ive never laughed or made fun of anyone while on the lift. But I usually try to keep it to a minimum, and always do it in good fun.

When I started freeskiing, anybody else on the mountain who had twin tips (there might have been two or three per day) was automatically my best friend. I miss those days.

My only advice is to try to keep the vibe positive. A lot of people in the park are very concerned about their appearance and are trying to cover up their insecurity by being jackasses. The best way do deal with it is to ignore them and just focus on having a good time.

Yea cause you know where I was skiing at right?, the type of jump?, and whether or not he was able to see me...right? Because every jump has a blind landing right? The dude was a gaper snowboarder who came in from the side of the jump out of control. How about you put your stubby little fingers up your ass instead of running them over your keyboard.

Considering the vast majority of park jumps have blind landings due to, well, the jumps themselves, i thought it was safe to assume. Either way, you got to "tattoo him in the face" with your pole and then brag about it on the internet. Badass.

Yea I'm real bad ass man. I'm totally braging about something that happened 10 years ago. Yes most jumps do have blind landings. Its not the person who falls fault for walking back up the landing to get his ski. The next person in line has to wait to see the person ski away from the landing to avoid landing on someone...... So you point isn't valid

Walk up the side of the landing dude. Never assume people will see you from the top, regardless of any factors. It's your own fault; just be glad you didn't get hurt and I hope you learned from it.

I think this thread just proved it's own point. A snake eating its own tail.

Be friendly out there, jive with everybody, chase a random through the trees, spark up a conversation with a stranger, take a run or two with a little kid who's trying to rip, help an old lady get her ejected ski.

One of the best days I ever had was when I was a young kid kid, skiing alone, and an father and his son ended up with me on the lift--I skied with them all day. It was a great experience, I try to remember that story when a someone ticks me off on-mountain. Just be good to people.

im with you on that one man. i think ns plays a part in this debate to be honest haha. theres a lot of hate going on around here. i mean look at my karma graph, i went from like 7-8 to 3-4 all because i said full tilt makes a shitty boot in my opinion haha.

my hill is a lot like this. a lot of cliques and groups. we've had two guys make it big, nick goepper and chris laker... well laker is a kinda haha. but the laker cronies think they run the joint and spread a lot of hate. it sucks. but you get up to mad river, and the vibes are so good. everyone is chill, even the skiers and boarders get stoked on each other. its sick. wish we could spread the love a little more
