ive met alot of really nice members of the forest service, i know a couple of park rangers from around old forge NY i met from camping up there many years consecutively, every year when im up there i hit them up and we get fucked up drunk and drive the ranger truck around with the lights on and fuck local girls and shit.


so you know what? fuck you man, the us forest service is way cooler than youll ever be.

Well yeah... there already are plenty of ski resorts. Opening a new one would mean allowing the resort to destroy land that doesn't belong to them. I mean, as skiers we obviously want to have plenty of options to go ride, but that doesn't mean we have a right to transform every inch of a mountain into a resort.

dude you can suck a fuckin dick. my dad is a forest ranger in NY and they do so much shit to help others. they fucking hate to write tickets but they have to if needed, or if the person is being a complete asshole. You have no idea how many nights my dad was gone from home and not getting back till 4am. out searching for dumbass hikers lost in the woods. They have police officer status, and if they wanted to could nail you for anything stupid, but they don't. They really are there to help people, and protect the parks. It's a killer fuckin job, and my dad loves going to work ever damn day. you're just an ignorant ass fuck who has no idea what hes talking about. choke on a moose dick, and fuck off. thank you.

there is absolutely no way that ticket price reflects rent owed to the forest service, especially if a resort charges $100 for a ticket. I'd say that if a resort charges that much it's far more likely that the resort needs to make payments on all its real estate ventures.

not all resorts are leased from the forest service and I'd bet the resorts are much more to blame for knocking down your shack than the forest service.

Actually I'd does. Ticket prices are high because there is a large barrier to entry for new resorts that could come in and add competition to the current resorts. Wolf creek for example is having a hard time with the forest service trying to get land development approved. You want to build a ski resort in Colorado? Tough luck you gotta deal with th forest service...

Actually.... the USFS is quite a fabulous group of people who spend their days trying to protect our resources so that future generations can utilize them. Ski resorts have HUUUUGEEEEE detrimental effects on surrounding plant life, wildlife, and water quality.

I gotta say that forest service rangers are generally good people. I agree with the op about tearing down smoke shacks, especially now with marijuana legal in Colorado. The thing is... that they tore down some smoke shacks that were there from the 80's, with come very elaborate designs. The shacks were not bothering anyone or hurting the surrounding environment. So now that the rangers decided to tear down all these smoke shacks, it makes people want to build more to replace the ones that were tore down. All of it could have been avoided if the forest service worried about more important things then some smoke shacks at Breck way way way in the woods.

forest service rangers are just people that are doing a job that they love, and get to be outdoors all the time. they tear them down because they have to.

plus you're on a fuckin mountain... do you really need a shack to smoke in? dip into the trees, puff a bowl, and continue skiing. if you really need shelter, im sure you can find a really thick tree or a little cove to hide in. it shouldn't be a long event, you want to get back to skiing

I'm not attacking the ppl who work in the forest service, not attacking your daddy or the douche who thinks he can kick my ass. I'm attacking the the forest services role in limiting the number of ski resorts from being built and developed. Take a state like Colorado- there's a ski resort like every hundred sq miles. The impact on the environment is virtually zero. The fact that resorts don't allow marawanas is a consequence of the forest service owning the land resorts are built on and it being a federal dept that has to go by federal law. Again read about wolf creeks difficulty getting base developments improved- as if it would be a horrible impact on the environment haha. "Oh we need to protect our forests from the evil resort corporations!" Haha

It's not that there won't be any trees left. And comparing this to the logging industry is ridiculous. Logging is terrible for the environment but it's a necessary industry. Certainly more sustainable practices need to be conducted in that industry. But ski resorts fragment the forest, creating less habitat space for species that require a deep "core" of the forest to survive. Due to human actions these types of forests are becoming fewer and farther between and is significantly impacting forest biodiversity. So yes a ski resort has less of an impact than clear cutting a forest (no shit), but it will still be very detrimental for usable habitat space. Ski runs create more forest edges and increases edge effects and limits forest cores available.

No shit it's hard to open a new resort it's protected land. Cutting down all the trees in strips down and entire mountain is not sustainable. When done correctly logging is. OP I feel like you have ZERO forestry background, go read a book on silviculture then we can talk.

Just because one isnt as bad for the environment as the other doesn't mean we need more of the lesser. They both do damage to the environment and are both controlled by the government so they can be done with the the least amount of harm to the environment as possible.
