Just sort of wondering how long they last? I bought mine this past summer and have only shot video with it really. And I know its not anywhere close to dying, but at what people do they start to break down?
I've had mine for 3 years now and It's been dripping wet and freezing and such many days over. It works fine. The most annoying thing for me is dead pixels.
i've had my t1i for three years. It's seen snow, salt water, sand and has traveled all over and is still as good as new. I'd imagine it'll last much longer too
shutter wise (which you won't really have to worry about for video, unless you take an un-un-un-ungodly amount) I think they are rated to like 100,000-150,000 or so shutter actuations, but I think people have gotten 250,000+ even around 500,000 before they poop out.
Out of interest what causes the repeated shutter actuations to cause it to stop working? Is it the sensor that stops working? or have they just found on average that after ~100k actuations parts of it start to give up?
depends on how well you treat it and how long you take care of it. considering you can still buy working canon slr cameras from decades ago, i would assume a while. if you dont abuse it, constantly exposing it to the elements and dropping it, i would assume it can last for years.
the technology could be insignificant by the time it dies, and you will have replaced it by that point
There is a stark difference in the way those are made, my Nikon F contains only mechanical parts and is made of brass. I could probably use it to cave in the heads of ten people and then take pictures of them.
The only manufacturer that still makes bodies the old way is Leica.
And those will stop bullets, and still work afterwards:
