This is 100% true. You will be so out of place if you do this. You wont have a clue what will be going on in your classes among engineers and others who have some work experience..

Yep. Im a shit poor writer. Thats why I've never scored below a 95 on a paper other than in that class. I don't care what you try to make it out as, there is no set grading criteria for an english course. Sure, you can dock a few points for set grammar rules, but the body of grading is based on content. It is COMPLETELY based on what your professor deems as "well written". Honestly it's the same the other way around. If an english major tried coming into organic chemistry 2 they would be bent over backwards and raped with a branding iron, much the same as if I tried going into a college level writing course of the equivalent level.

I guess I kind of just got screwed over with the professor I had. Out of 30 students in my class nobody scored above a B in the class, and over half the class was in the C range. Which I find a tad asinine seeing as it was an introductory english course that every freshman is required to take, and not everybody is going to be writing pulitzer prize winning books at that time.

My dad is an executive at Boeing, his best friend is an executive at Hyundai (previously at Toyota and Nissan) and his other good friend is an executive at Mitsubishi. All have said they won't ever hire fresh MBAs.

This gets dangerously close to bordering on grade inflation. It's more difficult than in "hard" sciences as there is not a concrete answer. Should every good enough paper get an A? Should everything be graded on a curve? Perhaps the professor was being a hard ass, but perhaps no one wrote an A grade paper. Just because it's an intro course doesn't mean the professor should not grade at the university level. I see so many students as a TA who lack basic grammar and other writing and critical thinking skills. Although such skills are difficult to teach, they are imperative for success in our society no matter what field you go into.

Top MBA programs won't even interview unless you're coming in with 3+ years of experience (most want 4 minimum) and it is not worth it to go to something outside of the top 15.

You need that experience so that you can sit in class and tell anecdotal stories about how big your dick was at your last job.

Got work at Goldman or McKinsey for 4 years and you'll be set. But you'll already be making 6 figures and hating life, B school is just the way out then.

I'm not surprised. MBA diploma in hand, thinking they're hot shit; I bet a good number of fresh MBAs fall hard when they start work.

Get working first, then go back for an MBA. Your company will likely pay for it, as it makes you more valuable. What's better than a professional degree that increases your value but on someone else's dime? Sounds like a win to me.

The vast majority of companies post-2008 are not going to paying for more than $5,250 (max tax deduction and the max they can provide you tax free), if that. Very few (<5%) are going to be paying for your full MBA cost (>$100K for a good program) and that's if you're able to get into a top school. Yes, some of the top consulting and banking companies may pay for your full time program but you're required for X amount of years for them after that and the vast majority of people in consulting/banking go to b school to get out of consulting/banking.

Well shit, fair enough.

To be fair, my experience is with engineering, not banking/finance. I should have included some sort of disclaimer. The engineering companies I have worked with, for, or looked into generally pay for it - all of it - as far as I know.

Wrong. Money is a consequence of education but not necessarily the primary goal. Don't be so thick-headed as to generalize so...generally! There are people out there who are in it for the study, the challenge, the creation, the contribution, the change, etc....not the money.
