I have to do a school project on the cloning/revival of the wooly mammoth. Stupid project I know, but I need to come up with pros and cons. Any suggestions? +K to contributors
Pros:
Probably drive advances in cloning technology
It would be fucking cool
Potential food source?
It would be really fucking cool
Their wool might be super warm or something for clothing
Having woolly mammoths around would seriously be fucking cool
Cons:
It would probably cost a lot
It would probably not be worth the huge time and money investment it would take to make it happen
theyve gone extinct for a reason, and their niche is no longer available. therefore their presence will have a major impact on other organisms both above and below them on the food chain.
In the future there will be no more cars, and we shall all ride wooly mammoths. We cut wayyy back on putting CO2 in the atmosphere, and we get to ride fucking wooly mammoths. It's a win win
there have been multiple accounts of people trying to eat mammoth meat. an northern exploration party in the mid 1800s claims to have lived for several weeks on nothing but the meat of a few uncovered frozen woolys and there have even been stories of mammoth banquets taking place in Paris. however, in the last 40 years or so when mammoth excavation has become a scientific endeavor, it has been reported that the meat is most often found rotten or moldy. when it isnt, it still smells awful and a few brave souls who have tried it claim claim it tastes tough and dry with little flavor, like meat which has been left in the freezer too long.
