Everyone today is going off on a rant about how guns are the problem, or video games and this and that. But really we need to step back from the situation and see why these situations are happening. Sure these are all contributing factors for correlation, but there isn't any proof that's its the causation for these things. However, what separates you and I from being someone that snaps and does a shooting?

The answer lies in the fact that psychiatric help and evaluations are not use nor are they up to where they should be in getting people the help they need. Take away the guns and you still have the people who need help. Some on the verge of a breaking point where they snap and lash out. Seriously, these people need help. Yet every year we cut funds for programs like this. But everyone feels that they need to push a political or social point everything one of these shootings happen. And I know that its hypocritical to make a statement like this, but seriously its always the last stone turned. /End rant.

really, it's blame americans for being idiots, and the american government for breeding and raising a nation of idiots, but you can't change the people, so you have to tackle the problem from another perspective.

Yes another thread about it.

At the end of the day you can ALWAYS find something to blame. Or should I say will always find something to blame.


The truth is, bad shit happens. And no matter what we do, we can't prevent it all. That's the reality of it. Insteda of pointing fingers and blaming each other, talking about torturing murderers, banning guns, bitching about how the world is so cruel, how about we try and move forward from these kind of events and create some kind of positive change. Even a small step from everyone to try and better the world. Maybe caring about the people around you more. We're never going to be perfect, life is a struggle, but we sure can do better than that status quo.


I'm being sincere. If all these people that care so much about people seeing their vibes on facebook, and defending that they care more than the other guy, but some of that effort toward being a better person, we might just have something.


Are bad things going to keep happening? Of course


But maybe we will see less of them, and have a slightly warmer place to live for our time here on earth.

Totally agree with you OP. People with mental illness are not helped enough, and this is what happens, at least to some who cannot hold it together anymore. And violent tendencies or at least violent thoughts are definitely not uncommon among mentally ill; it's just a matter of who acts on them or who doesn't. It's sad though, we need so many more programs for mentally ill and we just don't have them.

But People without guns = crazy people wanting guns at whatever costs.

I'll be the first to admit I don't give two shits if we do or don't have guns allowed in the United States. But so many other people will bitch about it that it'll be just a huge issue. To the point where people will mob over it.

Maybe just tightening them up such as in switzerland or just making it so that magazines are shorter in guns = more reload time and not as many bullets. And completely ban all and any form of assault rifles.

Do you think Lanza gave a fuck if his gun or ammo was legal as he was pumping hundreds of rounds into little school children?

What about that cho guy who killed 34 people at virginia tech? I wonder if he was concerned about the legality of his semi auto glock extended clip.

you are what is wrong with people, take some responsibility for fuck sake, if you dont want guns dont buy one, if other people want guns than by all means let them buy a fucking gun. shit happens, by your logic we should ban all planes because potentially they can crash into buildings, or lets just ban all explosives, because terrorists can kill us with them.

I mean maybe its just something that is highlighted only when the bad happens but personally there has been two public shootings this year. Maybe this year was an outlier and we only remember the bad but it definitely seems like something that is on the rise. Only time will tell i suppose.

because their fucking awesome thats why, you shoot stuff its fun, i have a target range at my cabin, i own a hunting rifle, and a snub nose revolver for hunting. personally i prefer to use a bow and arrow because i like to pretend im an indian, but i still love my guns, hell i shoot one almost every day at school. (military school)

Well maybe if we didn't play it non stop 24/7 on every news networks people wouldn't see it and think about it. Not saying every other incident is because of another. But I really doubt that the amount of news coverage this stuff gets has no impact on people deciding on doing it themselves.


And hell that's good enough for me. Let's ban the news! Blame them, ban them, and then we'll be safe.

Hell with a shotgun you could take out quite a few people in a little bit of time. Or get a couple 6 shooters. Have those filled and just go from one to another.


In people getting killed it really doesn't make much of a difference what types of guns we limit people too unless it's muskets and nerf guns. Other than that you can still kill a bunch of people if you want to.


And again. I could take out 30-40 people on the sidewalk with my car if I wanted to.

You act like taking away certain guns will have a huge impact on people being able to kill other people. It wasn't like these people were in the middle of a war shooting at longer range. They pretty much could have walked up to their targets and just taken them out.

Hunting was never the primary motivation for the 2nd Amendment. This right was acknowledged for the purposes of self defense from others and, more importantly, from the Government.

^I completely agree, I just think there should be more control with who gets to purchase guns and for what purpose (hunting is perfectly fine). For what reason can someone get a AK-47? Hunting elephants? There is no clear motive in why you would need one. It just makes it easier for people with mental issues to acquire one. If the shooter was allowed to purchase a high-powered rifle, it just seems fishy to me to purchase one if he's just going to shoot it in a field.

No guns=black market (like drugs)=people can still get guns (still lots of murder).

Black market=more violence (like the drug war and gang related killings).

So if people would be able to get guns anyways, why should we put up with exponentially more violence and an even larger increase to the amount of people incarcerated that would come from stricter regulations? If there is a ban on guns there is no way to control them at all since there would be no such thing as a gun registry.

The only way to get rid of guns is to wipe them from the earth as there will always be people to import/make them. However, this is impossible without wiping the knowledge of guns from our mind (men in black style).

What we need is less media coverage so people arent trying to die famously, more effective education, and better media. It probably is not a coincidence how much violent videogames, movies, and music comes out of the US, which also suffers from these terrible killing sprees. We import toys from China, and we export/produce violence.

And I honestly dont care about "rights" or any of that seeing as Im not even living in the US at the moment and I have no desire to purchase a gun. The only thing that can stop these killing is if the American mindset changes.

people using the black market argument are stupid.

we know that it is POSSIBLE to obtain guns by other means, but the thing is that they would be less accessibly. they're more DIFFICULT to obtain, and therefore NOT AS MANY around, thus leading to NOT AS MANY accidental deaths, spur of the moment murder/suicides, etc.

we obviously cannot control illegal methods of acquiring weapons. but we CAN control legal methods. and less of ANY kind of gun is a good thing.

But the thing is, the black markets are what cause most gun related crimes in the first place. Guns would be far less relevant if people werent always killing others because of drugs. Now think about if people started killing others over guns. Now we wouldnt only have to deal with drug related crimes (which make up most of our problems) but we would have to worry about gun related gun crimes as well.

There are probably as many americans who would resort to the black market for guns as there are people who search for drug.

Regardless of psychiatric help,crazy people can do much more damage with access to automatic weapons

Okay yes thank you everyone lots of things can kill people. Humans are frail and can die to many different things. But for things that involve "murder" not fucking accidents, but cold blooded murder, I am willing to bet (idk for sure) that guns/shootings are the number one cause of death. Not stabbings, or running ppl over with cars on purpose, but shootings. So please stop using stupid analogies to try and refute that point.

Like I agree with that one kid it is pretty fucking hard to change people. Like how exactly do you propose we do that lol? Unless u go Minoirty Report on someone's ass you aren't going to be able to stop people from "snapping". However, you can pass laws to make it harder for people to get the tools that cause most murders. Helping solve the problem of innocent people from getting murdered like this horrible tragedy.
