exactly, just like my guns arent intended to kill people, i use them purely for sport, i target shoot, its fun as hell and extremely challenging, and its become a passion. my guns are in no kept and used with any intent to harm people.
the 64million gun owners in the US are the same way, they dont buy their guns to go on shooting sprees and kill people.
just like nobody buys a car to get drunk and end up killing multiple people. but unfortunately, fuck ups happen, people text, drive drunk, suck at driving, arent properly trained, distracted, tired, etc.. and their car ends up becoming a 4000lb death mobile. it hapens to 30,000+ people a year, cars are obviously extremely deadly.
in the same way, people buy guns for sport, whether its target, hunting, defense, whatever. every now and then, like in this case, they are misused and become deadly. or an accident happens, someone isnt properly trained, etc..
its the same thing for cars, bikes, home appliances, knives, etc. guns are just another tool people use with no intent for an accident to happen or for it to be misused in a deadly way, but it happens. more rarely with guns than it does with cars.
you cant control everybody, accidents happen, people are stupid, humans are a violent species, we have emotions, etc.. life is not safe. taking away guns, cars, knives, tools, alcohol, etc.. would all be pointless, people will always find ways to kill each other, we will always find ways to fuck up and hurt ourselves, misuse things, the more you try to regulate the stupidity and natural habbits out of us, the less responsible we become. which might be part of why we see so many gun deaths, drunk driving, texting and driving, 16 year old thinks his civic is a ferrari and kills everyone his car, cant operate simple household appliances safely, deaths... we are more and more reliant on the government to regulate the shit out of everything so we dont have to be responsible. if my blender doesnt warn me that spinning blades are dangerous i could hurt myself type of shit.
all this being said, if 80+% of gun related homocides in the US are related to gangs, career criminals and convicted felons, that leaves around 2000 deaths per year out of 310 million people, i think we got bigger problems.. any number over 0 is bad, but i really think the law abiding citizens are doing a pretty damn good job at keeping the death toll to a minimum.
