remember, when this amendment was written, everybody had a single shot, 6 foot long rifle that took a minute to reload.

that amendment would never be re-written today with the guns we have now.

it's a stupid law, and nobody should have guns but soldiers and officers of the law.

end of story.

I was comparing it to Canada, where most of the very rare gun crimes are not home invasions on complete strangers. They are on people they know and passion killings or gang related. I'm going with my original argument that you danced around and picked one part to counter. Gun laws work, and I don't know how many more shooting in America are going to have to happen before you guys try to change.

Unlikely that you have the marksmanship to kill a deer with a 22 in what would be considered a humane way. That is why you can't hunt deer here with a 22. It isn't humane and the deer suffers too much before death. If it even dies.

Again, a bullet through the brain will drop a deer. My .22 is sighted in to just around an inch at 100 yards. I could drop deer left and right with that gun.

You need to start researching before you post. AR-15s come in multiple calibers. At least in Minnesota , it is legal to hunt dear with the .223 caliber and up.

What would it matter though. Criminals will get them either way, legally or illegally. Gun control affects law abiding citizens more than it does anyone else if you think about it.

People are stupid an ar15 is not automatic you can't own automatics except for grandfathered ones from 1968 which cost 30,000. 223 the original ar round will kill plenty of dear with hunting rounds. During the last assult rife ban colimbine happened, I wonder where he got those guns. 26 people dead? that a bad weekend in Chicago where guns are illegal. Cars kill many more kindergarteners per year than gun should we make cars illegal. You liberals try to make anything that scares you illegal good luck it won't change anything except geting guns out of good citizens hands. because then we are at least trying to stop the kind of people who are going on these massacres from doing so. as of now, by not making gun laws stricter, we are pretty much saying we're cool with what's happening. i dont know. it doesn't just seem wrong to you that the people murdering dozens of people at a time are doing so with guns they acquired through perfectly legal means?

exactly how it is here, the huge majority of gun crimes are from gangs career criminals and felons. none of which acquire their guns by walking into a gun store and filling out a background check to purchase their traceable gun.

yeah for the first few years. but when a lot of neighboring countries/states are on board and truly try to change something, it will be very hard to get an automatic weapon after 10 years or so.

but lets keep killing each other with assault rifles because we cannot do anything about it

Just one question. Was the guy that shot all those kindergarteners a gang member or a career criminal? And isn't anyone who commits a gun crime then considered a felon? You weren't wrong but I mean these school shootings and mall shootings weren't by gang members or criminals. They didn't have any convictions to their name.

I dont know the difference between an automatic and a semi-auto either.

its stupid though, a semi auto is probably more lethal for most of these shootings. Im one of a handful of people on this site who have fired a full auto and it its very difficult to stay on target. The muzzle likes to jump straight up.

if we banned guns you can can be 100% certain that more guns would be traded illegally. people are not getting this. we are not Canada or tiny European country #4. we have 1.4million gang members and over 30,000 active violent gangs, both this numbers are growning.
do any of you think that banning guns/handguns/assult rifles will have any effect on these gang members who dont acquire their guns legally as it is? fuck no, if anything it oepns up the market for illegally traded guns. these 30,000 + gang members arent just gonna say "aww shoot guns are illegal, im gonna stop playing gangster and go home" banning guns here will only create more demand for them to be traded illegally.

this will make access for criminals easier, and now the government has no regulation over it. now you have just as many career criminals, gang members, and felons with guns, you still have 10,000+ gun related deaths per year, and now you also get the extra violence and crime that comes along with a now booming illegal gun trade. and now you have disarmed citizens surrounded by 1.4million gang members, and who knows how many career criminals, with all the power.

we cant even stop pot heads from dealing weed, we cant control our borders worth shit, what makes anyone think attempting to get rid of guns would do anything?

nope, at least as far as i know he wasnt. this school shooting doesnt make up shit for the number of gun deaths we have in the US though. we have around 12,000 gun related homocides per year, over 80% of those being from gang members career criminals or felons.

our extremely high numbers are a result of our absurd gang problem for the most part, with criminals and felons helping out quite a bit as well.

by felon i meant convicted felon, as in out of jail, cant purchase a gun legally anyway.

as for these school shootings, a lot of them seem to be kids taking their parents gun and going on a rampage. a lot of them including columbine were more planned out, acquired the right guns beforehand crimes. but we have a huge surge in kids grabbing their parents guns and going on shooting sprees and i honestly dont know how you stop that. the kids themselves are the root of the problem, this is something thats only started happening in the last 10 years or so, gun laws havent changed so what the hell has?

and the better question is how do you fix it?

these school shootings make up a very very small number of gun deaths per year nationwide, so as sad as they are, we have bigger problems when it comes to gun crime and thats gangs and illegal gun trade.

i am just using bad terminology for this. i mean anything over a single-shot hunting rifle and a small handgun shouldnt be available.

regardless of semi-auto, auto or whatever. when you own a fucking assault rifle and youre not a marine, i do have a problem with that.

Let me start with, you're a fucking moron.

Making light of this situation by saying more children are hit by cars proves that. I can guarantee you 99% of those people do not mean to run over a child. This guy willingly killed 20 innocent kids and a few adults. There is a big difference. People like that clearly mentally unstable SHOULD NOT ever have access to weapons period. America needs to realize gun restriction is mandatory before hundreds of more innocent people die just so every idiot can "defend himself". Please, whens the last time someone shot at you and you fought back with all your guns?

As for you comparison of Hitler to Obama/US gov. taking away guns, easily the stupidest thing I have ever read on NS. Unless Obama starts forcing you into gas showers its not even remotely the same thing.

This is pretty much what I was saying.  People who think we should end the drug war (to stop the violence) by legalizing drugs, but also say that we should ban guns (and in doing so start a completely new and futile battle) are hypocrites. 

There is no way we can keep guns off the streets, like we cant keep drugs off the streets.  Trying to ban guns will only create more gang and cartel warfare, causing more deaths and more people we have to pay for to arrest and hold in prison.

Material bans dont work.

I believe it's wrong, but nothing can really be done to stop the purchase of firearms legally or illegally. Like I said before there is no good reason to take away or ruin the rights of the millions of law abiding, gun owning citizens when one or a few people are committing these crimes.

I'm going to guess you have never shot or seen a deer get shot by a .223. I've seen a dear shot with a .223 drop dead, and dears shot with much bigger rounds run for 70 yards. It's not the size of the bullet, it is the placement. As said by someone else, you can easily drop a deer with a .22lr round to the head.

AND?? how does that in any way make my argument invalid? so a bunch of European countries combined have a higher population than the U.S.? whats your point? where are their 1.4 million gang members, 30,000 violent gangs, their violent drug trade? increasing illegal immigrant extremely ruthless gangs bringing an increasing amount of violence and illegal gun trade with them? what percentage of their murders and/or gun crime comes from gang activity and organized crime?

my point is, there is no valid reason to compare the U.S. to somewhere like Denmark wherever in an effort to justify strict gun control, when their society is completely different than ours. you want a good comparison, sadly you would have to look at mexico, and many south american countries where there is a similar gang/drug/organized crime problem to ours.
Canada has the population of California spread out over a massive area with i think its something like 7000 gang members to our 1.4 million. yet people continue to think they are a valid comparison saying "look at canada, they have strict gun control and because of that everybody lives!" well look at mexico, brazil, lots of south america, south africa, etc.. where there is extremely strict gun control and an uncontrollable amount of violence. the problem there, as it is here, is not gun control, its organized crime, which is not effected in the least by a law stopping farmers from shooting soda cans.

First, you are using American exceptionalism. Because its 'Murica the laws can't even be changed and won't help? Second, there are way more than 7000 gang members in Canada. Third, Mexico is a terrible example because it is even more corrupt than the United States, so of course gun laws wouldn't work there. And yes gang members are the majority, but if you don't even try to change gun laws it can only get worse. Of maybe the American way of thinking has to change.

I guarantee 99% of legal guns are not used for crimes. I bet if I lived in Chicago where guns are pretty much illegal I would need mine every other week. Btw hitler vs Obama. Both socialist both blame economic troubles on a minority rich and Jews . Both will take guns away. Almost all Germans did not know about the gas chambers untill after the war.
